Farmland Building Supply welcomed customers and their families to its annual Customer Appreciation Day on Wednesday, June 3, serving burgers, beans, chips, cookies and refreshments as a thank you for the community's continued support.

The event, held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., drew a strong turnout, with approximately 160 burgers served.

Farmland Building Supply Board Member Dean Duxbury said the meal is traditionally held after the busy spring season.

“Every year we have an appreciation meal during the spring, once everybody’s hopefully done planting,” Duxbury said. “You get done calving, planting’s done, we got some rain. It’s just kind of a get-together to say thank you for supporting the lumber yard.”

After years of delays, detours and frustration, the long-awaited 2nd Street project in Wessington Springs reached a major milestone Tuesday as crews applied the roadway's permanent Otta Seal surface.

While a few intersections remain to be completed following the city's separate water main project, residents and businesses are finally seeing the finish line.

Most people see the can bin. Few see what it takes to empty it.
Twice each year, local students and FFA members volunteer to help the Wessington Springs Shriners empty the community’s aluminum can recycling bin. It’s a messy job, but the effort helps raise funds for the Shriners’ work supporting children and families.
The recycling bin also provides the area’s only local recycling opportunity, giving residents a way to recycle while supporting a good cause.
Thank you to the students, volunteers and everyone who saves their cans throughout the year. Check out the next print and e-edition for more information and photos about this project
