EAST BRIDGEWATER VOLLEYBALL: STATE CHAMPS
IMPORTANT SPECIAL NEWS UPDATE:
We are all still glowing with a smile on East Bridgewater being crowned Volleyball State Champions!! West Bridgewater News was proud to cover and do a write up for that game as well as all of the MIAA 5 games East Bridgewater was in that led up to the victory as Champions. After the game and the past two days messages were sent to West Bridgewater News about a Championship Finals flaw that made some parents, family, students, and alumni upset. For all of those who could not attend the game it was live streamed by the NFHS Network which the MIAA uses for all Final 4 games as well as all Championship Finals games for all divisions. The East Bridgewater championship game against Bourne was streamed by NFHS live and was also put on demand for any of the athletes, parents, fans and alumni or public to watch whenever they want. What many said upset them was that the NFHS commentator used for the game who did the play by play called every player on the East Bridgewater team the incorrect first and last name the entire game. However, it was discovered it was not the fault of the commentator as he did do an amazing job calling the game. The commentator was given the East Bridgewater roster that was in the MIAA Championship Finals brochure packet to use. The roster had all of the first names of the players and last names of the players for East Bridgewater listed. However and unfortunately, none of them matched together properly on the roster. As an example Olivia McManus was listed on the roster as Ayla McManus, Elizabeth Willis was listed as Olivia Willis, Ayla Kingman was listed as Brenna Kingman, Miley Delcarmen was listed as Elizabeth Delcarmen, Jenna Oman was listed as Grace Oman etc.....The MIAA roster that was used is attached to this message. So when anyone goes to watch the game on NFHS on demand they will notice the incorrect names being used as well as the roster listed in the Championship MIAA brochure packet with the incorrect names. This would not have mattered as much if it were a regular season game but having this happen on the first in school history championship game is why many are upset. In addition the Final 4 game that East Bridgewater played earlier last week that they won to move on to the championship game was the only Final 4 game not live streamed by NFHS as all other games were so East Bridgewater cannot look back on demand to watch that game as any type of memory to watch. It was also not on any other network. Finally, the East Bridgewater team was given State Championship sweatshirts and all of them had the incorrect names on them.

These issues were brought to the attention of the East Bridgewater Athletic Director to review and address further on anything that can or cannot be done after the facts. This message is not intended to point fingers or put blame on any organization or people or person as we all know both humans and technology make errors without intent. The message is being said due to the frustration and people being upset with complaints to know that it is being addressed with care and communication to follow. The East Bridgewater Volleyball team has a very special team, program as well as sports program in general with some of the best support any town could ask for. At this time let us continue to glow in support that East Bridgewater Volleyball is State Champions for the first time in school history.

EAST BRIDGEWATER VOLLEYBALL: STATE CHAMPIONS!!
CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL
East Bridgewater 3 Bourne 1

November 15, 2025. East Bridgewater defeated Bourne 3-1 to become the Division 4 MIAA State Tournament Champions of 2025. Bourne won the first set 25-12. East Bridgewater then won the next 3 straight sets 25-21, 25-14 and 25-23. East Bridgewater can now say they are as well as sing the song "We Are The Champions"! The East Bridgewater Vikings State Championship victory was its first for the Volleyball program in school history. East Bridgewater's team loaded with talented athletes hit on all cylinders as a unit and defined the term Vikings!

East Bridgewater’s Olivia McManus had another outstanding overall performance in the MIAA State Championship Tournament and this time coming through when the Championship itself was on the line. Olivia McManus delivered 11 kills including 1 that put the team in the lead 24-23 in the final fourth set and one that won the second set, defended back 3 blocks and served 3 aces including 2 in the final fourth set on back-to-back serves. Elizabeth Willis, just a freshman, played beyond her years with 8 kills and 1 big block that tied the game 22-22 in the final fourth set. Ayla Kingman had an excellent game setting up her teammates with a team leading 24 assists and served 3 aces including a big one in the final fourth set to help East Bridgewater take the lead 23-22. Miley Delcarmen was a force and a fierce factor with her play with 5 kills, 5 digs and 4 aces and was exceptional in the second set win in which she served the team in getting 12 points in a row that helped the team to take a 14-1 lead, which then went on to win that set. Jenna Oman had a great overall game with 5 kills, 6 digs, 1 block and was very effective serving. Bella Abrams was simply powerful and extremely important in the backcourt as she had 5 digs but one could say it seemed like she had double or triple that amount as every one of them was incredible and unbelievable in how she was able to return them at bullet speed. Bella Abrams also performed well serving, which included 4 aces. Grace Sweeney was crucial up front and a dynamic force as she led the team with 7 blocks. Riley Egan also saw minutes and played well as another factor that helped the team win the championship.

Highlight Set: Fourth Set
It appeared Bourne was on a mission and in good shape to tie the match 2-2 to send it to the final fifth set tie breaker as they dominated the beginning part of the set leading by as many as 8 when they lead 16-8. However, in epic form as a unit, East Bridgewater fought and competed like Vikings as they came back later in the set on a kill by Elizabeth Willis to make the score Bourne 21 East Bridgewater 20. Bourne won the next point on a kill by Lily Russell to put Bourne up 22-20. East Bridgewater then got a kill by Miley Delcarmen and a block by Elizabeth Willis to tie the game at 22 and then East Bridgewater took the lead for the first time in the set 23-22 on a serving ace by Ayla Kingman. Bourne scored the next point to tie the game 23-23 on a block by Lily Russell. East Bridgewater’s Olivia McManus then made a kill to put East Bridgewater back in the lead 24-23 and only 1 point away from winning the set and match. East Bridgewater won the next point on a play called out of bounds to win the set 25-23 and match as well as capture the crown as state champions.

Bourne (20-4) had a spectacular season and after being crowned state champions in 2024 in Division 5 they moved up to Division 4 and made it to the championship finals game again. They are an impressive and well coached team that will continue to have a bright future in the coming seasons. Bourne’s super seniors Nola Timo 14 kills 14 digs 2 blocks 2 aces, Sofia Halunen 11 kills 6 digs, Lily Russell 17 digs 7 kills 2 blocks 2 aces, Michaela Muldoon 4 kills 4 aces, Avery Morrill 16 digs 2 aces and Madelyn Rossignol 3 kills 3 digs all played well and were an important factor that put Bourne Volleyball on the map as a highly successful program during the seasons they played for the team.

Fan Factor:
East Bridgewater brought an impressive amount of student body, fans and family to the game that constantly cheered with support and positive chants in being a huge factor in support and momentum.

East Bridgewater High School’s volleyball team finished the 2025 season with a record of (24-1) which was the greatest number of wins in school history and helping it win the school’s first state championship. The 2025 state championship team consisted of:
Head Coach: Andrew MacDonald
Team Members: Bella Abrams, Olivia Crowley, Lili Deitz, Miley Delcarmen, Riley Eagan, Ayla Kingman, Julia Luddy, Olivia McManus, Jenna Oman, Diamond Pierre, Grace Sweeney, Elizabeth Willis and Brenna Wyper

West Bridgewater finally put some first downs together on a 12-yard run by Tyler Holmes and a 15-yard run by Ryan Nunes. Later in the drive Clinton’s Joshua Phillips made a big defense play for a loss and then on fourth down at the 30 Connor Cox stopped West Bridgewater’s rushing attempt and gave the ball back to Clinton. West Bridgewater’s defense then came up big with a sack from Jude Tait and one play later Jude Tait and Rajon Burkes made a sack. West Bridgewater forced Clinton to punt. However, on West Bridgewater’s first play Clinton’s Grady Frisch intercepted a pass. With one play left before halftime West Bridgewater’s Tom Polidori made a sack.

Third Quarter:
West Bridgewater was unable to get a first down in its opening possession in the third quarter as Clinton forced a punt. Clinton then had two key runs by Gavin Naughton and Luis Berdecia Jr. that placed the ball at West Bridgewater’s 21-yardline. Gavin Naughton then broke free on a run on the left side for a 21-yard touchdown run to put Clinton up 12-0. West Bridgewater’s Tyler Holmes made a great kickoff return that placed the ball on the 49 of Clinton. Tom Polidori had key runs for 5,6 and 7 yards and Ryan Nunes had key runs of 5 and 15 yards to help put the Wildcats in the red zone. Cole Lecornec then plowed through the line for a 3-yard touchdown run to make the score 12-6.

Fourth Quarter:
On a key 14-yard pass play from Luis Berdecia Jr. to Gavin Naughton and later a 1-yard run, Clinton had to ball on the 13 of West Bridgewater. Gavin Naughton then broke free on the right side for a 13-yard touchdown run to put Clinton up 18-6. Clinton would then stop West Bridgewater again on fourth down that came up short. Clinton then had firs t down runs of 13-yards by Taetum Cassella and a 15-yard run by Gavin Naughton on fourth down and then another 11-yard run by Gavin Naughton with less than a minute left in the game and Clinton took a knee to run out the clock and capture the victory to move on the Final 4 game.

November 13, 2025. Jacob Smith, a senior captain on the West Bridgewater High School Football team, has been a special and important performer all season long and when every play and point matters. He has been a difference maker. Jacob Smith has an important role in the football team. Actually, Jacob Smith does not have only one role in the team, he really has six different roles. Yes, six different roles on a team that has some great athletes, but he is the only one to have that many different roles and he has been a key factor that has helped the team reach the Elite 8 in MIAA State Championship Tournament.

The 5’11 210 lb. Jacob Smith lines up on offense as a Tight End and is mainly used as an important blocker to help not only protect the quarterback but help pave the way for the West Bridgewater offense that averages 40 points a game.
