✨New V Busy out now✨
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This month's Letter from the Editors:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Hello. Please turn on the instrumental to Industry Baby before proceeding. (The trumpets should be playing at this point.) Are you ready? Okay tysm. Continue.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Baby back, ay
Panic attacks, ay.
Few mental breakdowns on her,
Hella snacks, ay
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We interrupt this absolute banger to bring you the new ~monthly~ V Busy. That's right, we will now be showing up in your inbox once a month, both for your sanity and ours. Mostly for ours. We are two cancers and we are constantly overwhelmed and spiraling endlessly into the abyss.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Please excuse our absence during the month of July. We were simply trying to make it to August and, dammit, we did it. You did it too, bestie. And my god was it hard. Much harder than it should be (thank you capitalism). It turns out, we are simply unequipped to live this life operating like a machine. Don't know if you can relate but our mental health has been in hell, so we've taken the time to assess why that is and it all comes down to... wait for it... emotions.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This month, we're looking at the different ways our emotions may be affecting the areas of our lives that can often feel out of control. That's the worst part, isn't it? Feeling like you're constantly in freefall. It doesn't have to be that way. But there's knowing that, and then there's knowing that, you know what I mean? Life does not have to be unmanageable. We don't have to simply exist. There's more out there for you than what causes you pain. There's happiness, too.

✨New V Busy out now✨
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This week's Letter from the Editors: “It's Monday in America, which means many of us are facing a fresh batch of reasons why we'd like to abandon all responsibilities and spend our lives on an island eating berries and local fish. Pressures from work, partners, family, friends, and the many institutions that hold us captive financially have way too much influence over our actions, what we think we should want, and what we prioritize.

So, hi. Hey. You. What do you want? Can you even say what you want without coming up with a mental list of the reasons you can't have it? Are we living vicariously through Pinterest boards and the Instagram accounts of strangers? Sorry, too far?

A reminder if you need it: The expectations of others are not your concern and any plan for your life that is not conceived in your head is none of your business, bestie. Be free.”

✨New V Busy out now✨
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This week's Letter from the Editors: "Mental Health Month may be ending, but ~anxiety~ is here to stay. (The first step of dealing with your problems is acknowledging them, right?) Unfortunately, we all experience anxiety at some point in life, and since we literally have to go out of our way to learn basic coping mechanisms for how to survive as a human, you can have one foot in the bell jar before you even realize anything's wrong.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
There are a lot of things that we need to process before we return to life outside of the walls of our homes, and we may not have time to do that before the expectations of other people become a daily battle. Remember that your time is still yours. You still set the tone for your life. We don't live for jobs or relationships, we live for moments like this. Go make them.”

Hi all! Very excited to share that my poetry book released on Monday and hit #1 in New Releases for Women's Poetry on Amazon that day.
.
I feel like it's a collection that would really resonate with this community. Thank you Sarah Hawkins for inviting me to share about it here.
.
.
What's it about?:
"A Long Dark Summer" is a pseudo-memoir told in a compilation of poems set between 1993 and 2021. It chronicles the journey of a young woman letting go of the angst of adolescence and surrendering to the pull of adulthood all while confronting issues around race, identity, relationships, and an unforgiving entertainment industry.
Part dreamscape, part punch in the stomach, "A Long Dark Summer" is a cautious love letter to the intoxication of how one wishes the world to be and the pain of embracing how it truly is."
.
.
"A rich, harrowing, textured, funny, brute force collection of poems. I laughed, I held my breath, I reminisced, I learned—a lot." - Trevor Algatt (Actor/Writer, Amazon Review)
.
.
Now available on Amazon worldwide in paperback and kindle
Today's recommendation comes from Terrible, Thanks for Asking and the episode is called What’s Negative About Positivity. It's a good one, y'all.

Host Nora McInery talks to Susan Davis, an award-winning psychologist on the faculty of Harvard Medical School, about how constant positivity can be toxic and delusional. Davis talks about how her father's death from cancer forced her to face the ways toxic positivity was ruining people's lives. This is one of the most eye-opening, and enlightening conversations we've ever heard.

This is the Thursday episode of our Millennial Spiral theme, curated by Sarah and Myah of Pretty Thing.

What are you scared of? At the Pretty Thing Tour, co-founder of Solow talked about what women go through while enduring the entrepreneur path. Check out the mag to see what knowledge she dropped & we picked up from the conference this past weekend.
I have decided to make it a priority to acknowledge all the talented ladies I know and build them up. I think it is a small thing we can do to support the phenomenonal women in our lives. I encourage all my female badass women to do the same!
Happy National Daughter’s Day to the most amazing young woman I’ll ever know. And to be doubly-blessed, not only is she my daughter but also she’s my business partner and the co-founder of Dadley Productions, now well into it’s fourth year.

On top of all that, I’m so very proud to know how much you’ve inspired so many other daughters (of all ages and walks of life) from coast-to-coast through your company, Pretty Thing along with her business partner there Myah Hollis. Keep on, keeping on, kiddo. The best is yet to come.
Love ya bunches, Dad(ley)❤️
