Set on England’s Jurassic Coast in the 1840s, ‘Ammonite’ follows fossil hunter Mary Anning as she combs the Lyme Regis shoreline and is hired to keep company with a young woman recovering by the sea. The arrangement turns into an intense bond that unfolds against cliffs, tide pools, and museum showrooms.
Kate Winslet (Titanic) plays Mary Anning and Saoirse Ronan (Brooklyn) plays Charlotte Murchison. The cast also features Fiona Shaw (Killing Eve), Gemma Jones (Bridget Jones’s Diary), and Alec Secăreanu (God’s Own Country). Written and directed by Francis Lee (God’s Own Country), the film uses real locations around Lyme Regis to ground its period story.
In the US, you may be able to watch it at no cost through your public library on Kanopy. If not, it's also available on services like Amazon Prime and Apple TV for rental or purchase.
