USCIS Alters CSPA Age Calculation, Impacting Indian Green Card Applicants

WASHINGTON, Aug. 8 – U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services will change how it calculates a dependent child’s age under the Child Status Protection Act (CSPA), a move expected to affect thousands of Indian families in the green card backlog.

Starting Aug. 15, 2025, USCIS will use the Final Action Dates chart from the State Department’s Visa Bulletin, replacing the more favorable Dates for Filing chart adopted in 2023.

The shift could cause more children of H-1B workers to “age out” upon turning 21, losing eligibility for permanent residency. Pending cases filed before Aug. 15 will remain under the old policy.

Beginning September 2, 2025, the US Department of State will revise its policies regarding visa interview waivers, altering who is eligible for an exception to an in-person interview. The most significant change applies to travelers seeking B1/B2 (business/tourist) visas. From September, candidates whose previous visas expired within the last 12 months will no longer be eligible for the Interview Waiver program.

The modification also extends to certain H-1B and F-1 visa recipients, who might be compelled to attend physical interviews despite previously qualifying for a waiver. Previously, visa holders whose visas had expired within 48 months could often skip the in-person interview. The new rule shortens this eligibility window to 12 months, limiting the number of people who can avoid interviews.

An Indian woman, 24, has gone missing just days after arriving in the US for an arranged marriage, according to New Jersey authorities.

After launching a probe and reviewing nearby CCTV footage, local police found that the woman, identified as Simran Simran, was seen checking her phone and looking around - apparently waiting for someone before she went missing on Wednesday, The New York Post reported.
