Spider plant grow tip: Lots and lots of bright, indirect light (I use grow lights year-round, 12-14 hours/day), weekly watering with plant food (I use SUPERthrive), and fertilize once/month. They love high humidity, too, so run a humidifier or mist frequently.
Spider plants must be root bound to produce branches/babies, so be sure they’re not in too big of a planter for their relative size. When I’m potting rooted babies, I plant several in the same pot so it’ll get root bound faster.

My hydroponic snake plant! I took a snake plant, rinsed the roots, and placed it in a clear glass vase filled with clay pebbles and water. The clay pebbles, also known as LECA (Lightweight Expanded Clay Aggregate), help the roots get air and absorb water without needing soil.

In the last few months some of you have expressed an interest in growing hostas from seed this winter. You can harvest seeds from your own plants (the pods need about 8 weeks to mature before you pick them) and grow them.

You will also start seeing seeds from some great crosses for sale soon on the Hosta Seed & Seedlings Canada page. Hybriders typically start to post them in late September / early October…but since some hostas are still blooming, you can expect to continue to find seeds for sale at least until the end of the year.

Note: with almost no exception, hostas do not come true from seeds. To get one like the one pictured, you want to make sure the mother plant was a streaker.

1967 Shelby GT350 swallowed up by the forest. My son is into building model cars and wanted to make a terrarium with me. He completely destroyed one of his models and airbrushed the rust etc. We also apparently picked up a 🐌 hitch hiker from the forest
