According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, V Highway in Oregon County will be reduced to one lane for pavement repairs. The affected section of roadway is located from H Highway to Highway 142. Work is planned to take place from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily through Wednesday.

Drivers in Oregon, Shannon and Carter counties can expect lane reductions on area highways as road work is scheduled this week and continuing through the fall. All work will be done as weather permits.

➡ The Howell County Commission will hold a meeting at 10 a.m. Monday in the conference room on the second floor of the Howell County Office Building, 35 Court Square, West Plains.

➡The Missouri Department of Conservation will host a "Leather Crafting: Gun Slings" workshop from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 30, at its office, 551 Joe Jones Blvd., in West Plains.

➡ The Missouri State Highway Patrol has announced that all driver examination stations statewide will be closed Sept. 1, in observance of the Labor Day holiday.

Paige Sheridan, the daughter of Thom and Kristi Sheridan, attends Rockhurst University in Kansas City, where she is pursuing a degree in molecular biology on the pre-dental track.

Paige Sheridan, a 2024 graduate of West Plains High School, has again received the Henry J. and Lucille J. Straus Scholarship, administered by the Community Foundation of the Ozarks.

Tpr. J.D. Healy with Troop G of the patrol, Willow Springs, reported a westbound 2013 Ford Focus driven by a 21-year-old man from Pottersville ran off the right side of the road on a curve, overcorrected and rolled over onto its side.

Both the driver and passenger were wearing seat belts. The teen was taken by ambulance to Ozarks Healthcare in West Plains for treatment of minor injuries, the patrol reported.

A 17-year-old boy from West Plains was hurt in a crash at 9 p.m. Monday on County Road 6300, 5 miles west of West Plains, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

“Not many people have the opportunity to proclaim they ran from the cops and won, and did it all legally!” said Willow Springs Chamber of Commerce Director Kim McCormick. “Make plans to come out and join us for this fun event.”

The Willow Springs Chamber of Commerce will host its third annual "I Ran from the Cops" 5K fundraising event on Sept. 13 at Palenske Field in Willow Springs.

Here is why this little spacecraft offers such a great example of faithfulness: It kept doing what it was supposed to do longer than any NASA engineer anticipated. That is the definition of faithfulness.

Concord Church’s pastors led the congregation through a summer sermon series on the Fruit of the Spirit this year. I finished the series last Sunday by focusing on faithfulness. One of the key points I made was that faithfulness is consistently doing what we are supposed to do.

Ozarks Healthcare will host a free Primary Care Panel for the community at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Willard Hunter Classroom at the Ozarks Healthcare Parkway Center, 1211 Porter Wagoner Blvd., West Plains.

In celebrating National Library Card Sign Up Month in September, Summersville Friends of the Library is donating two $25 gift cards for two separate drawings of new Summersville Branch Library patrons. One drawing will be for adults and another for children receiving a Texas County Library card for the first time. Drawings will be held before closing time on Sept. 30.

With school back in session this week, the display frames in Summersville Library have presently been changed to a “back-to-school” theme. My home is included, too, because Oak Hill School, a one-room school 5 miles north of Summersville, once stood where my house now stands. Several who attende...
