All successful donors will receive a limited-edition Chiefs Kingdom T-shirt, while supplies last. Donors will also be entered for a chance to win a game day package valued at $585, which includes two tickets and a parking pass to the Kansas City Chiefs’ Dec. 14 game against the Los Angeles Chargers.

The Community Blood Center of the Ozarks will host a Kansas City Chiefs-themed blood drive from noon to 6 p.m. Oct. 24, in the Willard Hunter Classroom at Ozarks Healthcare Parkway Center, 1211 Porter Wagoner Blvd. in West Plains.

Clif Smart was selected as general counsel at Missouri State University in 2007 and became the university's president in 2012. Hall of fame officials pointed out that, under Smart’s leadership, MSU set new enrollment records, expanded its science and healthcare facilities and established its first doctoral programs. The MSU System includes local campuses in West Plains and Mtn. Grove. During his tenure, Smart was known for his dedication to the university's ROTC program.

West Plains Bank and Trust Company is the latest to join donors sponsoring the cost to build one home with a $40,000 contribution. Bank President and CEO David M. Gohn said the donation is intended to support victims of domestic violence as they work to build a brighter future for themselves with support from Christos House - Domestic Violence Services.

"Dakotah Brigman finished eighth overall with a 92, and Rose Reeves finished ninth overall with a 95," said West Plains Lady Zizzer Golf Head Coach James Sharp. The team combined for a 382 on the par 70 course.

Two West Plains golfers earned All-Conference honors and the Lady Zizzers placed third out of seven teams Thursday at the Ozark Mountain Conference Tournament at Whispering Oaks Golf Course in Marshfield.

Another West Plains drive is set for 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Oct. 21, at the civic center, 110 St. Louis St. In Willow Springs, a drive will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Oct. 20, at Willow Springs Methodist Church, 311 N. Harris St..

The American Red Cross is asking for blood and platelet donations to offset a seasonal drop in donor turnout and is offering several opportunities to give in the West Plains and surrounding area.

There are so many German dishes to choose from, all seemingly rich in flavor and grounded with potatoes or sauerkraut. To start the exploration, I’ll begin with a little appetizer: These German pretzel muffins, paired with a cheese sauce, should do the trick.

I love to cook by the seasons and explore new cuisines, so I thought this October was a good time to do a German-themed dinner. Both my husband and I had German grandparents, so it's about time we sampled some of the food from our ancestors. I'm calling it OctoberFeast.

In a probable cause statement submitted to prosecutors, Missouri State Highway Patrol Tpr. C.C. Battreal reported he arrived at the scene of the crash at about 1 a.m. Dec. 1 on Highway 142, east of EE Highway, and detected the strong odor of intoxicants coming from Powell’s breath.

A Thayer man who was the driver in a fatal December 2024 crash has been charged with driving while intoxicated resulting in the death of another and first-degree involuntary manslaughter, both felonies.
