Utah's Classic Country Utah's Original Country Station, KSOP...featuring Country Joe weekday mornings from 6am to 10am. He signed on KSOP-FM at 104.3.

Welcome to Classic Country AM 1370, A locally owned and operated radio station. Back in February of 1955, a businessman by the name of Henry Hilton brought KSOP-AM 1370 on the air as the first Country Music station here in Utah. Then on December 10th of 1964, he took a gamble on a new kind of radio, FM radio. Since then both KSOP AM & FM have been bringing Country Music to the great state of Utah.

It’s Sunday December 14th and it’s Roast Chestnuts Day! And in 1932 born on this day in C**t Arkansas, Charlie Rich was a singer and musician. In the latter part of his life, Rich who acquired the nickname the Silver Fox and is best remembered for his 1973 hits, "Behind Closed Doors" and "The Most Beautiful Girl. Rich died in his sleep on July 25, 1995. Its National Monkey Day! And in 2011 Singer Billie Jo Spears died of cancer at 73. She reached the top-10 of the Country music charts five times between 1969 and 1977, her biggest hit being the 1975 "Blanket on the Ground." It’s National Biscuits and Gravy Day! And in 1973 Lorrie Morgan gives her first performance on the Grand Ole Opry, singing "Paper Roses" at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium and back in 1961 “Big Bad John” by Jimmy Dean became the first country single to receive an official RIAA certified gold record award. It’s National Screwdriver Day! And the number one song on this date in 1974 was “I Can Help” by Billy Swan. in 1986 the number one song was “Hell And High water” by T. Graham Brown. The ceremony's start is delayed when the groom forgets to bring the marriage license. It’s Ice Cream Day! In 1971 Tiny Hill dies in Denver, Colorado. The 350-pound comic, nicknamed America's Biggest Bandleader, mixed novelty tunes and country songs with his big band. Continuing his love for humor, his tombstone reads: "Forgotten by many, remembered by few" Its National Popcorn String Day! In 1985 Dolly Parton, in the midst of a copyright trial over "9 To 5," tells reporters in Los Angeles she had offered a settlement to the plaintiffs, Neil and Jan Goldberg, to keep the suit out of the public eye. And in 1957 Jerry Lee Lewis secretly marries his 13-year-old cousin Myra Brown in Hernando, Mississippi, though he is not yet divorced from his second wife. His career is damaged when he reveals the news in England. It’s International Sound Check Day! And in 1972 Hank Williams Jr. and his wife, Gwen, have a son, Shelton Hank Williams, in Nashville. He makes a mark with a rebellious mix of hard rock and stone country under the name Hank Williams III. Its National 12-hour Fresh Breath Day! And in 1988 Waylon Jennings underwent triple bypass surgery at Nashville's Baptist Hospital. The singer later said he had quit smoking five or six packs a day after being a smoker for 40 years. It’s Thursday December 11th and it’s National Stretching Day! And in 1944 Brenda Lee is born at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. Little Miss Dynamite becomes a major pop artist as a teenager in the 1960s but shifts into country music in the 1970s. She ends up in the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1997. She is 81 today. It’s Holiday Food Drive for Needy Animals Day! And in 1946 Hank Williams has his first recording session, for Sterling Records, at the WSM Studios in Nashville, backed by The Willis Brothers and bass player Chuck Wright. Among the songs recorded is "Never Again (Will I Knock On Your Door)" Its National App Day! In 1996 Faron Young shoots himself in the head in Nashville, apparently distraught over his slumping career. He dies a day later. Its National Pastry Day! And in 1956 Born on this day in Kokomo, Indiana, was Sylvia Jane Kirby, country music singer and songwriter, more commonly known by the singular name Sylvia. She is 69 today. It’s International Day of Veterinary Medicine! And in 2005 Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood married at their home in Oklahoma. It was Brooks' second marriage, and Yearwood's third. Brooks proposed marriage in front of 7,000 fans in Bakersfield, California on May 25, 2005. It’s International Anti-Corruption Day! With younger sibling Sonny, The Osborne Brothers become a major bluegrass duo, joining the Grand Ole Opry in 1964 and developing their signature song "Rocky Top" He died on June 27th 2023. It’s National Cotton Candy Day! And in 1948 Gary Morris is born in Fort Worth, Texas. A considerably talented singer, he piles up a string of hits beginning in 1980 before branching into night-time soaps and Broadway. He is 76 today. It’s Earmuff Day! He records his first hit, "Each Minute Seems A Million Years," and his first version of "The Cattle Call" Its National Dice Day! And in 1944 Chris Hillman of the Desert Rose Band was born, he is 81 today and in 1955 Drummer Brian Prout drummer for Diamond Rio was born, he is 70 today, Happy Birthday to both. It’s Santa's List Day! Now in 1971 Seven months after eloping to Mexico, George Strait re-marries Norma Voss in Texas to satisfy their parents. Its Wear Brown Shoes Day!
