Seven years

Seven years ago today I lost my best friend from college to cancer. Megan always made me feel loved. She loved champagne, cupcakes, and hot dogs. She would always come in town for college basketball and I’d always visit her for her annual ugly sweater party.

In college, we lived across the hall from each other freshman year at Miami of Ohio. Megan would make a pitcher of who knows what and put it in her β€œmagic” tote bag as we rode the bus to the bars (where in Ohio you can go in at 18).

Post college, when I ran the Chicago Marathon in 2011, she sent me flowers in a margarita glass. She hated running, but she knew how important it was to me. This is a big part of the inspiration behind Athlete Bouquets.

I don’t remember how I found out she was diagnosed, but I remember driving to West Virginia once to sit with her while she was in between treatments. I kick myself for not seeing her more.

Megan was one of my bridesmaids (we got married her birthday weekend) and she was the first person outside of my family I told I was pregnant. She never met either of my girls. They would have loved her.

In our last text exchange, she joked about planning her own funeral (complete with champagne, cupcakes and hot dogs). That was very Megan. I attempted to make plans to come see her but failed to follow up. That still haunts me.

I’m running the Beyond Monumental half this November for Ketchup to Cancer | 5 ⭐️ Charity Marathoner. Because F**K CANCER and all it’s taken from so many.

I love you, Megan M. ❀️

I’ve always wanted to do this. Thank you, Project Repat | T-Shirt Quilts! 🀩🀩🀩🀩🀩

I had a pile of race shirts sitting in my closet forever (years, probably). SO HAPPY with the end result.

You can save 30% if you use the link in my bio (under ALL MY COUPON CODES) to order yours.

Tons of size options. Mine is a twin and needed 24 panels.
Use T-shirts of any fabric - long or short sleeved.
If you don’t want to mess with cutting they’ll do it for you.

Now I may need to do this with my kids soccer jerseys and all the t-shirts I bought from souvenir shops when I studied abroad in college. πŸ˜†

Spot the difference πŸ‘€ Thank you Eric Farny for capturing me in my element at Prairie on Fire.
