SCAM ALERT!!

We have once again been made aware of scammers who claim to be Law Enforcement Officers (sometimes even using the names of actual Sheriff's Office employees), demanding money from unsuspecting citizens under the false pretense that by sending the scammer money through gift cards, cash apps, or cryptocurrency, the victim or their loved ones may avoid being arrested.

Government agencies DO NOT demand payment via gift cards, cash apps, or cryptocurrency.

When in doubt, hang up on the scammer and call our CCSO Duty Officer at 410-386-5900. Do not call the scammer’s number back, and do not simply click on the number from your phone’s call log.

Please share this information with friends and relatives, especially those who are not on social media.
