Today’s Nation Park profile is Joshua Tree NP. Today is my last park to profile, I have covered all 63 of them. Tells us about your experience at this park.

Joshua Tree National Park is a striking desert landscape where the Mojave and Colorado deserts meet, creating one of the most unusual ecosystems in the American West. It’s named for the iconic Joshua trees, those twisted, spiky yucca plants that look like something out of a dream.

I began creating National Park profiles in early 2025 because I wanted to show everyone just how precious and important these places are. Unfortunately, recent government decisions have suggested otherwise — funding cuts and the attempted elimination of more than 1,000 National Park Service jobs. Thanks to court challenges, most of those positions were restored, but that doesn’t mean it won’t happen again.

Our parks are aging, and they need more care, more staff, and more resources than ever before. At the same time, attendance continues to rise every year, driven in part by social media and increased public interest. More visitors and less support is not a sustainable combination.

If you care about the future of America’s National Parks and public lands, please contact your congressional representatives and let them know these places matter deeply to you and to this country. Public engagement is one of the strongest tools we have to protect them.

Today’s National Park profile is Carlsbad Caverns NP. We were just there couple weeks ago, These Caverns are so spectacular, around every corner is something amazing. Give us your thoughts about this park in the comments.

Carlsbad Caverns National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site in southeastern New Mexico, famous for its vast underground limestone caves—over 100+ known caverns formed by sulfuric acid rather than typical carbonic processes. Its most iconic feature, the Big Room, is one of the largest cave chambers in North America, filled with dramatic stalactites, stalagmites, and other formations. The park is also known for its Brazilian free‑tailed bat flights at dusk.

This week’s National Park profile is Guadalupe Mountains NP. The Park covers above 86,400 acres. It doesn’t offer a lot of activities, but if you feel up to a long hike, you should try the Guadalupe peak trail. Often called “The Top of Texas”—is a strenuous, 8.4‑mile round‑trip summit hike that climbs roughly 3,000 feet from the Pine Springs Trailhead to the highest point in Texas at 8,751 feet. We just visited the last week, so many spectacular views.

Guadalupe Mountains National Park in west Texas protects the world’s most extensive Permian fossil reef, showcases the four highest peaks in Texas, and offers a striking mix of mountains, canyons, desert, and dunes. Visitors experience dramatic landscapes, rich biodiversity, and iconic features like Guadalupe Peak and El Capitan.
