EMERGENCY 5 BORO SUMMIT CALL TO ACTION
This is an URGENT open call to every civic, block association, block watcher, organization, development corps, bids, clubs, fraternal, community boards, and others, chairs and president’s, and all leaders who represent their community’s best interest, throughout the 5 Boroughs.

The Ozone Park Block Association is calling for every leader, president, chair, from every community, neighborhood, and town, from every Borough, across the city of NY, for a summit meeting on how to proceed, and stand together, work together, and come up with a solution to the crisis facing NYC, the homeless shelter placement, of 90 shelters, in our residential, family, communities. This is not about each shelter’s significant impact on their own community, but a summit that will discuss legal actions. Our attorney has found possible grounds and we need to discuss this going forward on how to proceed and see how many communities are willing to stand with us, in this fight, jointly.

At the same time, we want to present to the city in the future, ideas and ways to discuss helping solve the problem rather than putting them in warehouses, converted buildings and making a select few people very, very, wealthy on the backs of the homeless.

This will be a controlled environment. This will not be a forum about our political views, or our disgust with the mayor. Because at the end of the day most will agree on those things. This is about:

1-Being proactive to a solution that can be presented to either this administration or the next one. We are NOT anti-homeless but we are not happy with not being consulted, NOT having local Community Board input, and not helping the homeless to transition and assimilate, but to keep them suppressed and in the system. It is time for a change.

2- Deciding as a collective group of civic-minded leaders how to go forward and possible legal actions, such as class action suit.

We are asking at LEAST ONE (1) representative from every civic, organization, board, club, etc. that represents their community, neighborhood and towns, to please come to the meeting. This is NOT an open meeting to the public. This is a summit being called as an urgent emergency meeting, to a crisis that is being pushed into our residential communities. This is not about opinions but FACTS.

We have an attorney that has stepped up to represent us, we can use more if more want to work with him. The more heads the better. We will put together an advisory panel that will work with the lawyer (s) if we choose to go forward and to represent us. I will NOT lay out our plan of action here, it will be done in private, at the summit. Lawyers that want to work on this contact me.

Please be respectful as our Ozone Park elected officials, as well as others, who have supported us from the start will be present at the meeting. We will NOT allow for disrespect or bashing. This is strictly to discuss 2 things and that is it. Please be ready and prepared and let’s fight together for a better NYC. The elected officials have been invited to guide us, counsel us and see if they can create change in Albany and NYC. They will be speaking and addressing us.

We do not want lurkers or spies coming, we do not want unwanted troublemakers, so please forward us an email with the name (s), the organization they represent, the title role, if any, an email address and a contact telephone number, all this is a must. We will process this and send you a reply back as a confirmation that you will need to print and show at the door. We are taking this very seriously.
The meeting is Friday February 8, 2019, starting around 6 PM. DESHI Center, 83-10 Rockaway BLVD Ozone Park NY 11416. We will provide pizza and bottled water. Please try to block out 2 hours. This is that important and that serious. I cannot emphasize this enough.
We will discuss having this summit in each of the other Boroughs and moving around the city as we are welcomed. BUT in order to change the narrative, we need to show the administration, the city council and the elected officials we can and will mobilize our people if we are not treated with the respect we deserve.
PLEASE SHARE, RESHARE, POST, REPOST, COPY AND PASTE, TO EVERY NYC GROUP you are in and every page for every community and association across the 5 Boroughs. Also send a copy to all email addresses you have of all civic, organizations, groups, clubs, and representatives of their respective community’s.
Community Boards, please forward to all your local civics, organizations, associations that represent the different areas, in your board. We need to get this letter out to everyone and anyone that represents an area within the 5 Boroughs. Please feel free to forward as needed. TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE. And we need your help and cooperation to make this a major success. Stand on the right side of history and be proactive.
