This was me warming up for a voice over gig last year. Dolly sure did know how to tell a story with her songs. Kenny, Willie, and Dolly are the songwriters that taught me you could write a song that people could see in their heads. I can only hope that there’s someone out there that sees Nona or Debbie the way we can all picture Jolene!
But the thing I’m gonna miss the most about Dolly is how she reminded me of my mom. Just how much she loved everybody and kept a positive attitude about everything.

Dolly Parton was my mom’s artist. Then she became our’s.

We sang Dolly’s songs together from the time I could talk. Anytime we were in the car together, at home, and anywhere else…At the top of our lungs
About ten years ago, Mom asked me to sing for some of her students. I pulled out “Little Andy” and asked her to sing it with me. When I was little, she played Dolly and I always played Andy.

She got up, no rehearsal, no notice, and absolutely killed it.

I can hear my whole childhood in this video—my mom’s voice, the way I learned to harmonize, and then there is Dolly…the one who taught all is how a song could tell a story.

Thank you, Dolly, for giving my mom and me a lifetime of songs. We’ll keep singing them. ❤️
