Edits for Beginners, episode 1. If tech scares you, this series is for you. We're keeping it stupid simple. 💜

Today: the keyframe zoom. That smooth zoom you see in good reels? You do not need fancy software or a single ounce of tech skill to do it. You need one thing called a keyframe.

And "keyframe" sounds way scarier than it is. A keyframe is just you telling the app "look like this here... and like that there." The app does the smooth part in between for you. That's the whole secret.

Here's all it takes in the Edits app:

1. Drop your clip on the timeline and tap it.
2. Put the playhead at the start, add a keyframe.
3. Move the playhead to the end, pinch to zoom in a little.
4. Hit play. It zooms all by itself. ✨

That's it. That's a keyframe. You just made your video look intentional and professional in about 20 seconds, and nothing about it was scary.

Everyone swears they don't have time. But time isn't missing, it's hiding.

It's tucked in the little pockets of your day you don't even notice. The scroll before bed. The wait in the pickup line. The "one episode" that becomes three. You have more minutes than you think, they're just slipping through your fingers while you look for some big free block of hours that's never going to magically appear.

Here's the thing. You don't need hours to start building something of your own. You need minutes. 30 here, 15 there, the exact minutes you're already spending somewhere else.

Stop waiting to find time. Start catching it.

"I don't have time" is the most popular lie we tell ourselves. And I'm about to prove it to you, with love.

I used to say it too. I swore up and down I had zero free time. Then I actually looked at where my time was going, and oof. Reality check.

Here's where time hides, and be honest with yourself as I go. The average person spends over 2 hours a day on social media. That's 14 hours a week. Just scrolling. There's the "one episode" that turns into three. The 30 minutes on your phone in the pickup line. The Sunday afternoon that somehow just evaporates. The doomscroll in bed before you finally fall asleep.

You don't need to find 8 hours a day to start something of your own. You need 30 minutes. And I promise you, you have 30 minutes. You just spent it somewhere else today.

So here's the real truth. It was never that you don't have time. It's that you haven't decided this is worth some of the time you already have. We always find time for what we actually prioritize. Nobody's too busy for the things they truly care about, we make room for those.

And listen, rest is allowed. Scrolling isn't a crime. I'm not telling you to hustle every waking second, that's not me and it never will be. I'm just gently pointing out that "I don't have time" usually means "I haven't made this a priority yet." And that's a completely different problem, one you can actually fix.

So here's my challenge. Tomorrow, trade 30 minutes of scrolling for 30 minutes of building something that's yours. Just 30. Then watch what that adds up to in a month.

The day I walked away from my paycheck, everyone thought I'd lost my mind.

Leaving steady, reliable money to bet on myself and something I built from home? Crazy. Reckless. What if it doesn't work.

But here's what nobody wanted to say out loud. That "steady, reliable" paycheck kept me stuck living paycheck to paycheck. Every single month. It was just enough to keep going and never quite enough to get ahead. Reliable, sure. Reliable at keeping me exactly where I was.

So I left. Peace signs up, out the door. ✌️

And I won't lie to you and say it wasn't scary, because it was. It took time and a whole lot of work to build something solid enough to walk away for good. But that walk out the door was the beginning of an actual life. One where I own my time, I'm home with my family, and there's no ceiling on what I can build.

Walking away from that paycheck was the best decision I ever made. I just had to be brave enough to bet on myself first.

The easiest way to make more money is to get rid of your paycheck.

I know exactly how that sounds. Stay with me, because it's the realest thing I'll say all day.

A paycheck feels safe. It's steady, it's predictable, it shows up every two weeks. But here's what nobody points out. That paycheck is also a cap. Someone else decides your number, and no matter how hard you work, how early you show up, or how much you pour in, you cannot go past it. So "keeping your steady paycheck" usually just means keeping your income frozen right where somebody else set it.

The safety is the ceiling.

When you let go of that and build something of your own instead, your income stops being decided by someone else and starts being tied to your own effort. That's not less secure. That's the first time you're actually the one in control of the number.

Now let me be real with you, because I always am. This is not "quit tomorrow and get rich." It doesn't work like that. It's scary, it takes real time, and you build the thing before you ever leap. I didn't walk out on day one. But the moment I stopped treating that capped paycheck as the safest thing in my life, everything started to change.

Because honestly? Handing one company the power to decide what you're worth for the next 40 years and calling it "security" is the actual risk. Betting on yourself isn't the reckless choice. It might be the safest one you'll ever make.

Motivation is overrated. There, I said it.

Everybody's waiting to feel motivated before they start, and then waiting to feel motivated to keep going. But motivation is a mood. It shows up when it feels like it and disappears the second things get hard or boring.

The people who actually build something? They're not more motivated than you. They're more consistent. They show up on the fired-up days and the couldn't-care-less days exactly the same.

I'm not going to pretend I bounce out of bed thrilled to work every single morning. I don't. Plenty of days I don't feel like showing up at all. But I do it anyway. Because that's what puts food on our table. Because the daily, unglamorous, nobody-claps-for-it work is the actual thing that built this life.

And here's why it's worth it to me. I would take working 4 hours a day, 7 days a week, from my own home, in whatever I feel like wearing, with no cap on what I can earn... over 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, just to earn 2 days off. Every. Single. Time.

That's the trade. A little discipline now for a whole lot of freedom later. And I'll make that trade all day long.

I don't always want to show up and work. But I do it anyway. And that right there is the entire difference.

Everybody's out here waiting to feel motivated. Waiting for the spark, the burst of energy, the perfect mood to finally get going. But motivation is exactly that, a mood. It shows up when it feels like it and vanishes the second things get hard or boring. If you only work when you feel motivated, you will never build anything.

The people who actually see success aren't more motivated than you. They're more disciplined. They do the small, daily, unglamorous things whether they feel like it or not. Success isn't one big heroic moment. It's a hundred quiet times you showed up when you'd rather not have.

And let me be honest with you, because I'm always honest with you. Plenty of days I don't feel like it. I'd rather do anything else. But I show up regardless, because that's what puts food on our table, and because the work doesn't care what kind of mood I'm in.

People assume there's a whole team behind me. An assistant. An editor. A tech person. Some office full of employees making it all run.

Nope. It's just me. 🙋‍♀️

I'm the one filming the content. I'm the one writing the emails. I'm the one answering your DMs, building the website, and actually teaching everyone. All of it. Same person, one laptop, usually in my pajamas.

And I'm not telling you that to sound impressive. I'm telling you because I think it's the most encouraging part of this whole thing.

You do not need a team. You don't need an office, a budget for employees, or some big fancy operation to start an online business. When I began, it was just me and a lot of caffeinated water and a willingness to figure it out one piece at a time. That's it.

That's the part nobody tells you. The barrier to starting is so much lower than it looks from the outside. It looks like you'd need a whole company. You need a laptop and a reason.

So if you've been telling yourself you can't do this because you're just one person with no team and no resources... that's exactly how every single one of us started.

And I'm not telling you that to sound impressive. I'm telling you because it's the most freeing thing you'll hear all day.

So many people never start because they think they need what a "real" business looks like from the outside. A team. A budget. Employees. Some big fancy operation. I didn't have any of that. Nobody does at the beginning. It looks huge from the outside and it's really just one person figuring it out one piece at a time.

And before you tell me "that sounds like way too much for one person," here's the part that matters. You don't learn all of it at once. You learn one thing, then the next, then the next. It looks like a mountain from the bottom, but you build it one small skill at a time. And the tech part you're scared of? I teach that in plain English so it never has to be the thing that stops you.

So if what's holding you back is "I'm just one person with no team and no resources"... that's not a reason you can't. That's exactly how every one of us started.
