So I’ve had a few chats this past week, and one thing I’ve come to realize is that a lot of DJs just know how to party—and that’s fine. But there’s a big difference between being a party rocker and being able to truly play the room.
There’s a time and place for eclectic selections, for reading energy that’s not built around a dancefloor or pop hits. Not everyone is comfortable in that space, and honestly, that’s where the artistry shows up.
Back in the vinyl days, I got it—you weren’t going to drop cash on full albums or obscure tracks you’d never play out. But now? In the digital era, there’s no excuse not to have depth and range in your library. It’s never been easier to explore and expand.
I live for those events where you get to stretch your selection and push the edges a bit—to ride that fringe between familiar and unexpected. That’s where the magic happens. Im thankful that i get a lot of those calls.
