Well, it wasn’t my initial intention, but I was out bartending for charity today and I just thought that the tips were a little light. Next thing I knew, the shirt came off, and the tips were instantly increased. I’m willing to put in some work for a good cause. I apologize to anyone that happened to get a hair in their beverage.

I love a packed dancefloor with the energy cranked to 11—but being part of something like Wichita's Littlest Heroes hits different.
They threw an incredible celebration honoring their Heroes and their families, and it was pure magic. Santa and the Grinch made appearances, princesses were everywhere, and even a few members of the Rebel Alliance showed up. Hot cocoa loaded with all the fixings, balloon animals, photo-booth moments, great food and drinks—and I had the honor of supplying the festive holiday soundtrack.
Watching those kids light up with joy was everything. A few of them even jumped in to try out some DJ techniques. Carrying this spirit all through the holidays.

As the year winds down, I just want to say thank you—to everyone who’s supported me, booked me, collaborated with me, or simply been part of the journey. It’s wild to think how long I’ve been DJing, and even wilder to realize that when I left my day job six years ago, I never imagined it would turn into this.

I get to live my best life every day because of the incredible community around me. Being trusted as the host, the soundtrack, the lighting tec, the hype man (and a slew of other roles) for so many celebrations is something I don’t take lightly. It’s an honor—every single time.

Let me give Wichita By E.B. his flowers. I’m sure he never imagined that blogging about restaurants would lead him here—but seeing what it’s grown into is incredible. The impact he’s making through his dedication to this community is nothing short of remarkable. I’m grateful to have played even a small part in this ongoing journey. He’s a great reminder of what one person can do when they show up consistently and lead with heart.

Once upon a time, I was diagnosed with cancer.

Thankfully, it was caught early and completely removed—along with my entire kidney. Life-altering, but survivable.

In the strange in-between time—after diagnosis, before surgery—I tried to live as normally as possible. One day I was on my way to The Arcade to play some pinball when I ran into Joey Henry.
Actually… he ran into me. Minor fender bender. Not the point.

We talked. I told him what I had going on. Before we went our separate ways, he said he’d be thinking of me and that he’d “hold me in golden light.”

I don’t fully know how to explain why that landed the way it did. In a world where “thoughts and prayers” often feel like a default response, this felt different. Intentional. Weighted. Like a steady hand on your back when you don’t realize you need one.
It felt… nice.

Tomorrow I have a minor surgery—the first since that big one years ago. I’m good, but definitely stirs up some old feelings.

So if you’ve got any golden light to spare, feel free to shine some this way.

Neon lights. Synth-heavy anthems. Funk, pop, new wave, hip-hop, and roller-rink classics that hit different after dark. The lights go down and the wheels start spinning as we take it back to the 80s at Carousel Skate Center .
Break out the leg warmers, denim, bandanas, and high socks. Whether you’re smooth with it or just rolling for the nostalgia, come enjoy the festivities. Lace up. Lock in. Skate like you used to… only better. Friday, 12/19, 930-Midnight.

Random Sunday activities, yes please.
1. Instruct everyone to wear their most festive holiday attire. This will be part holiday bar crawl, part photo shoot.
2. Round up your crew for lunch at one of the amazing Wichita holiday pop ups, reservations probably required (we went to Public at the Brickyard).
3. Enjoy your meal and maybe a couple of adult beverages.
4. Stop in a random bar for a one and done. Go in, order a round of shots. Pay and leave. It's a nice little boost if you are traveling on foot (this happened at Emerson Biggins Old Town).
5. Take lots of photos. I highly recommend having a folder of reference photos for the most awkward poses to be efficient (very important when it is cold out). We made use of the tree at Naftzger Park.
6. Some indoor shopping to help warm up. (and yes, we had a round of Chambongs at Bubbles Champagne Bar while checking out The Workroom)
6. Another round of drinks and more photos at another pop-up (Nortons Brewing Company).
7. End the day at the old Wi******er (Quincy's Bar & Grill AKA Q.B. & G. 67203).

People say there is nothing to do, but you really can make plenty of your own fun with some friends and a willingness to take some amazingly great photos in front of strangers.
