Congratulations to Cindy Holscher for winning the Democratic primary for Kansas Governor!
Cindy is not only a fantastic, strong, smart, tried-and-true leader, but she is also an incredibly kind human being.
Two days after my niece passed away, Cindy called to offer her condolences. I had never even met her. She was a church friend of my sister's and knew I had been there helping during Ally's final days. At the time, Cindy was a state senator—and a very busy one at that. I was deeply touched that she reached out, and we talked for quite a while. It was a simple act of kindness that I'll never forget.
Now Cindy will face Augusta's own (and now Andover's) hottest graduate ever, who took what he learned in public education through USD 402, went on to bankrupt his own business, champion private education, work to gut the very public education system that educated him, and bully his way into our state government.
I surely can't be the only one who is tired of watching lying, cheating bullies get ahead in this world - people who leverage political positions, religious affiliations, and church communities to gain power. For him, the governor's office would be the ultimate ego trip. So let's make sure he trips over that ego come November.
For this and countless other reasons, I encourage you to learn everything you can about both candidates. Then please consider honoring Cindy with your faith in her experience, her character, her integrity, her morals... and ultimately, with your vote.
P.S. If you agree with this message, tell all of your Mary Jane-loving friends that Holscher is the candidate who supports legalizing ma*****na. While I'm not a midnight toker myself (or at any other time of day), I recognize the potential impact legalization could have on our state. States that have legalized cannabis have generated billions of dollars in excise and sales tax revenue, with some of the largest markets bringing in more than $1 billion annually.
Imagine what Kansas could do with that additional revenue. It could help strengthen our public schools instead of diverting resources away from them as Masterson and Williams have committed to doing. It could help support adoption services and families facing difficult pregnancies. It could be invested in infrastructure, mental health, or countless other priorities that benefit all Kansans.
It's heartbreaking to say that my daughters have fewer rights today than I had at their age. It's also heartbreaking to think that after all the positive progress we have made, our rectangular state has no business regressing back to square one as such a square. KANSAS: AS BIG AS YOU THINK! That means there's literally 82,278 square miles that creates plenty of room for everyone here - except bullies who want to bulldoze our rights, kill public education and treat women as lesser than men.
Vote Holscher.
I'm voting for character over intimidation, service over ego, and leadership over bullying. Now THAT'S the kind of person I want as my governor.
