My lifelong TV dinner obsession continues, I present the Fakelicious Christmas edition. Growing up in a rural Midwest farm town, we grew — and killed — most of what we ate. A couple times a year, Mom would surprise us with TV dinners and we thought someone must’ve died and left us a fortune or Dad won big at one of his card games at the tavern. I couldn’t imagine a luxury better than eating magical food cooked at the same time for 45 minutes and then eaten on a tray on Friday night, listening to Burl Ives sing the soundtracks to those claymation Christmas specials.
📺
I still feel this way today. You can’t find them in stores anymore, so I now make my favorite combos and hang them around my house to remember those times when life was simpler — at least for us kids.
📺
Swanson didn’t have a designated Christmas TV dinner, other than this ham and cranberry offering with sweet potato whip as one of the sides. In the perfect version of my life, I would be the designer and chef of TV dinners and my Christmas dinner would also include chocolate cherry pudding and individual fruitcake. My Fakelicious Christmas TV dinner now lives inside my gutted vintage Muntz 21 console television set and is the keeper of many of my best Yule memories of yore.

Is it really even the holidays without chocolate and booze? I’ve done the research and…nope. Fakelicious Faketinis are Santa-approved.

After spending the afternoon sipping coffee with rescue cats at the in old St. Charles yesterday, I am adding cat toys to my list of uses for my Fakelicious creations after watching the felines play and try and crawl inside my Fakelicious Christmas candy handbag.

My Mom has been stealing cats for five decades and might’ve unintentionally coined the phrase “cat rescue”. Yesterday I took her to in old St. Charles for our one-hour reservation ($15 per hour) for coffee with…cats. One of us was very excited. I told the owners to check mom’s cape for stolen cats before we left.
😻
Here’s the footage of our cat date along with just a few of the cats Mom stole over the years. I guess I can add cat toy to my long list of uses for Fakelicious creations after seeing all the cats try to crawl in and play with my Fakelicious Christmas candy handbag. Meowza (that means Merry Christmas in cat talk)!

My Grandma Herbert had debilitating arthrtitis her whole adult life, but it didn’t keep her from painting hundreds – – maybe thousands – – of beautiful ceramics for her family for every occasion. My vintage Muntz television console diorama for this Christmas is a tribute to my grandma and all the treasure I am now the keeper of. The church was made for my great grandma Farmer by my grandma Herbert, the statue of Mary and baby Jesus was made for my grandma Thompson by my grandma Herbert, and the nativity scene in white was made for my mom. I carry all these memories and now these precious ceramics with me in life, and this Christmas, my grandma is smiling down from heaven at this beautiful display of them all together in one spot, joined by my tiny childhood Bible and Cardinal bird from my Auntie Fran, who joined them in Heaven. It feels like Christmas now.
