🌿🐸 Is it a frog, a patch of moss, or a tiny forest dragon?

This is the Vietnamese Mossy Frog (Theloderma corticale), a species native to the rainforests of Vietnam and Laos. Their incredible camouflage helps them blend seamlessly into moss-covered rocks, tree trunks, and stream banks, making them nearly impossible to spot in the wild.

These frogs are semi-aquatic, spending much of their time near water, and unlike many amphibian species, they often do very well in groups when housed appropriately.

They are also not commonly bred in the United States, making captive-bred specimens a special find for amphibian enthusiasts.

When it’s time to reproduce, females typically lay their eggs in water-filled tree hollows, rock pools, and other small pockets of standing water. The tadpoles develop in these protected aquatic nurseries before eventually transforming into frogs.

And here at Flora Colossi Frogs, we’ve acquired a whole army of them! 🐸🌿 (Yes, “army” is one of the accepted collective nouns for frogs, though I think “mossy army” sounds much more fitting.)

With their moss-covered appearance, golden eyes, and prehistoric look, it’s easy to see why Theloderma corticale is considered one of the most fascinating amphibians in the hobby. 💚🌿

🧬 What is a T-Pos Red-Eyed Tree Frog? 🐸❤️

I recently added a very special Red-Eyed Tree Frog to my collection—a T-Pos (Tyrosinase Positive) Albino!

When most people hear “albino,” they think of animals that are completely white or yellow with red eyes. However, there are actually different types of albinism.

🔬 T-Pos stands for Tyrosinase Positive. These animals still produce a small amount of melanin (dark pigment) because the enzyme responsible for pigment production, called tyrosinase, is still functioning—just not normally.

As a result, T-Pos animals often display:
✨ Softer, muted coloration
✨ Reduced dark pigmentation
✨ Red or ruby-colored eyes
✨ Unique patterning and shading that differs from traditional albinos

In Red-Eyed Tree Frogs, this creates an absolutely stunning appearance, with pastel tones and reduced pigmentation while still retaining some of the species’ natural beauty.

Because this trait is genetic and relatively uncommon in the hobby, T-Pos animals are highly sought after by collectors and breeders alike.

I’m excited to watch this frog grow and see how its coloration develops over time! ❤️🐸

Have you ever seen a T-Pos Red-Eyed Tree Frog before?
