Slipknot hit us with new music….
Slipknot have just dropped a brand new song titled “Arsenal.”
The track arrived today, September 9, with an official video, only one day after Jim Root shared new footage from the studio as work continues on the band’s next album.
There had been no traditional announcement or lengthy buildup. Fans began receiving hints that something was coming, and “Arsenal” has now appeared as the first major new release to emerge while Slipknot are working on the follow-up to 2022’s The End, So Far.
What makes the release even more interesting is what appears in the official video description: “a (sic)est Films production in association with (sic)est Records.” That name immediately caught fans’ attention.
The End, So Far completed Slipknot’s long relationship with Roadrunner Records, the label that had released every one of their studio albums since their 1999 self-titled debut. Jim Root confirmed earlier this year that the band were moving forward independently while working on new material with producer Matt Wallace.
“Arsenal” may therefore represent the first major release of that new era under Slipknot’s own (sic)est Records banner.
The timing also comes while sessions for the next album are already underway. Root recently revealed that Slipknot had accumulated around 50 song ideas, with the band experimenting heavily as they worked through the material.
At the moment, however, Slipknot have not announced a new album title, tracklist or release date, and there has been no confirmation yet that “Arsenal” will appear on the eventual record.
So for now, we have a new Slipknot song and potentially our first look at how the band intend to operate completely on their own terms.
“Arsenal” is out now.
What do you think of it?
