Edit: I stand corrected it is not a new show but rather one that never made it to the air. And apparently the title of the show was going to be the real witches of Salem...

There’s a new show called Wicked Witches and I’ve had a couple people send me clips, so I went sleuthing.

The show is based out of Salem with “Salem witches,” including, but not limited to, Christian Day, the owner of Hex. Based on the clips I watched — because no, I will not be watching the entire show — I genuinely feel like this is going to do nothing but harm real practitioners.

It feels like high school drama mixed with Hollywood dress-up. And before anyone twists my words, I’m not knocking dressing up in your witchy garb. Frankly, I thoroughly enjoy it. But in this context, it comes off more like performance than practice.

It’s drama between practitioners, and I feel like it’s going to do more harm than good for the witch community. I also think it’s going to bring more fledglings into the community expecting unrealistic results and unrealistic portrayals of what practice actually looks like.

I know real life doesn’t always make entertaining TV, but I really wish we could get something closer to an accurate portrayal of modern witches than the junk that keeps getting made.

Can we please stop calling every damn psychic ability "empath"?

Every few months I see one of these "Signs You're a Powerful Empath" lists, and half the fu***ng stuff on it has absolutely nothing to do with being an empath.

Apparently if you're an empath, you:
✔ Feel other people's emotions
✔ See spirits
✔ Talk to angels
✔ Predict the future
✔ Get answers in dreams
✔ See through lies
✔ Make lights flicker
✔ Survive hardship
✔ Know the ending of movies in the first scene
At this point we're three bullet points away from:
✔ Can breathe underwater
✔ Summon dragons
✔ Has the Infinity Stones

Here's the thing: being a empath and mediumship are not the same damn thing.

An empath is someone who feels the emotions, moods, and emotional states of other people some times even places and animals.
That's the core of the ability.

• Mediumship is communicating with spirits or receiving information from the deceased.

• Precognition is receiving information about future events before they happen.

• Dream messages involve receiving symbolic, spiritual, or intuitive information through dreams.

• Intuition is the ability to perceive information, patterns, or insights without conscious reasoning.

• Synchronicities are sometimes meaningful coincidences that seem connected beyond simple chance.

Can one person be a empath and have several of those abilities? Absofu***nglutely.

Does having one automatically mean you have all the others? Hell no.

Saying "seeing the other side" is a sign of being an empath is like saying being a great singer means you're automatically a painter, mechanic, and Olympic swimmer. They're completely different skill sets.

I think these lists get shared because they're flattering as hell. The longer the list gets, the more likely someone is to read it and think, "Wow, that's me!"

But when we start throwing every spiritual experience into the empath bucket, the word loses all meaning.

Being an empath doesn't need a hundred fu***ng mystical superpowers attached to it to be valid. Feeling the emotional energy of the people around you is already enough.

Not every psychic is an empath.

Not every empath is a medium.

And for the love of all things witchy, being able to guess the ending of a movie doesn't make you spiritually gifted. It probably just means you've watched enough damn movies. 🔥🖤

Not that long ago I found out there are places that call themselves “magic schools.”

My first reaction was basically, “that’s wild… kind of cool,” so I looked into it.

What I ran into were programs that teach people how to be mediums or psychics. And that’s where things start to sit weird with me.

I do think a lot of people can pick up on energy in some form if they’re not dealing with something like a serious psychological condition affecting perception. But actually communicating with the dead? I’m not convinced that’s something you can just train someone into.

And then there’s the pricing. Charging over a thousand dollars for mediumship classes feels like a huge red flag to me. That starts to look less like teaching and more like taking advantage of people who are searching for answers.

What really gets me though is the authority piece. Who decides who “has it” and who doesn’t? Who gave these people the power to label someone a medium or validate someone’s abilities like it’s a certification you can hand out?

Overall it just leaves me with a really uncomfortable feeling about the whole thing.
