If you haven’t pulled up a stool at in Willimantic, you’re sleeping on one of the coziest pubs around—equal parts Irish comfort and foodie flair.

Nestled at 69 Church Street and run by chef‑owner Matt Hardisty (who even farms his own produce nearby!), this spot offers a limited-but-loved menu: think Guinness stew, fish & chips (my favorite - the tartar sauce is unreal), Reubens, burgers, along with rotating chef’s specials that highlight local meats and veggies.

Don’t sleep on the hanger steak (when they have it - it sells out quick) or their creamy clam chowder—each dish feels like a warm, welcoming hug.

The bar’s a delight, too—dozens of beers on tap, plus cocktails and that trusty pint of Guinness for when you need liquid courage.

If you haven’t wandered into in Pomfret, you’re seriously missing out on one of Connecticut’s coolest farm-to-flask gems.

Tucked inside a restored 1900s barn on the old Gwyn Careg estate, this spot combines old-world charm with small-batch spirit magic.

They’re distilling everything on-site—from vodkas and gins to apple brandy, corn whiskey, and even shiitake-infused spirits—using local ingredients and their own legendary well water (hence the name). Every bottle tells a story, and every pour feels like it came straight from the heart of Pomfret.

The tasting room is rustic, cozy, and full of character—perfect for sampling flights, sipping cocktails on the patio, or warming up with barrel-aged gin after a hike on the nearby Air Line Trail. You might come for the drinks, but you’ll stay for the vibe.

Alright, since we are the Quiet Corner Buzz, we need to give a shoutout to a local beekeeper.

Peter Polomski is the mad genius behind Buddha's Bees Apiary, with bee yards in Mansfield, Pomfret, Chaplin, and Hampton, cranking out some of the best honey you'll taste in your life!

To make it even better, they also have flavored honeys (just to give you an idea - lavender, hot, bourbon, pumpkin in the fall, even the occasional smoked honey!).

You can find his honey at retailers throughout Windham and Tolland Counties (check out his website - https://www.buddhasbeeshoney.com/ - for a full list of retailers).

Time to pick up a pound, you seriously won't bee-lieve how good it is (had to get one pun in there).

Stop whatever you're doing and take a drive to Willimantic for some of the best Mexican food north of the border. I'm talking about La Mexicana Grocery and Taqueria in Willimantic.

While the building might look non-descript, the food is anything but. Tacos, burritos, quesadillas, tortas, and a lot more are available in with all sorts of meat options (including lingua, tripa, chorizo, carnitas, and everything else you could want).

No matter what you order, you're going to be happy. And the house made sauces? 🤤 - be forewarned, they have some heat to them.

While your food is being made, take a walk around the attached grocery store, where you can grab authentic Mexican ingredients (and specialty foods).

This is a go-to place for whenever I have friends visiting from out of town! Do yourself a favor and stop in, try something new, and thank me later!

Full disclosure: I absolutely love this place! (I'm addicted to their Full Moon Chai)

has been keeping Danielson and the surrounding areas caffeinated since owner (Cheyenne) took over the former Nolle's Coffee Bar in 2021.

Moon Magick boasts a menu with enough drink options to have you trying something new everyday (it's seriously impressive), delicious breakfast/lunch options, unique decor (which makes waiting for your order actually pleasant), and super-friendly staff.

If you're driving through Danielson, or just searching for a new place to get your caffeine-fix (or uncaffeinated beverage-fix), do yourself a favor and take the drive to see Chey!

Do you like bulk spices, local veggies, and snacks that actually taste like food? How about a spot where you can shop and feel like you’re contributing to people rather than a faceless corporation?

is a community-owned grocery store in downtown Willimantic that’s been doing the whole “support local” thing before it was cool. Think fresh produce from CT farms, sustainable everything, and zero pressure to be a full-on crunchy granola to enjoy it.

They’ve got locally made soaps, ethically sourced chocolate, and more cheese options than you’d expect for a place this size. Plus, the vibe is pure community energy—everyone from college students to retirees shopping side by side like it's a cozy food utopia.

Oh, and you don’t have to be a member to shop there (but members get sweet discounts and bragging rights).

Hope and Wellness: Wellness Spa and Salon has been pampering the Ashford community for almost 20 years.

Owner Hope () has created an amazing spot where you can get a relaxing (or not so relaxing) massage, Reiki session, reflexology work, and then go get beautified with a haircut and mani/pedi.

Staffed with friendly (and capable) people, you'll be hard pressed to find anyone who hasn't enjoyed their services.
