Governor Phil Murphy has declared a State of Emergency, effective 12:00 a.m. on November 1, 2025, in response to the Trump Administration’s suspension of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.

The suspension impacts over 800,000 New Jersey residents who depend on SNAP for essential food access — nearly half of whom are children, seniors, or individuals with disabilities.

Governor Murphy stated, “The Trump Administration’s decision to suspend SNAP benefits threatens the health and safety of over 800,000 New Jerseyans. We will use every available resource to protect vulnerable residents and ensure no family is left without access to food and essential support.”

The executive order calls for a coordinated statewide response to strengthen food access networks and ensure all residents have the meals they need.
