December 4. National Cookie Day.

Did you know the word cookie comes from the Dutch 🇱🇺 word koekje which means little cake? Those clever bakers used to test their oven temperature by baking tiny little cakes first. If they looked good, the big cake went in. If not, back to the drawing board.

Honestly, it reminds me a whole lot of writing.

Every chapter you draft is your little test cake. Every idea scribbled on a notepad is a koekje. You try it out, see what rises, what falls flat, and what needs a whole lot more sugar. The big polished story only happens because you dared to bake the small ones first.

So today, celebrate National Cookie Day by giving yourself permission to experiment. Write something small. Play with a scene. Try a new idea. Taste test your creativity.

Great books, just like great cookies, start with little cakes.

Outline Your Book in Ten Minutes

If outlining makes you freeze, you are not alone. It does not have to be complicated. You can sketch the full shape of your book in just ten minutes. Here is the simplest method you will ever use:

1. Start with the beginning.
How does your story open? What moment sets everything in motion? One short sentence is enough.

2. Move to the middle.
This is the heart of your book. What challenge is your character facing? What keeps the tension alive?

3. Decide the ending.
Where do you want this story to land? What changes by the time the final page turns?

4. Add three major turns.
One early twist, one in the center, one near the end. These are your anchors.

And there you go. A ten minute outline that gives your book clear direction without the stress. One step at a time, and you will get that story written.

Today we get to share something truly special at Wichmann & Co. Our next publication is on the way, and our whole team is proud of this one.

Straight From My Heart by Diane Wilson is a collection that carries the weight of real life. Diane has walked through a kind of loss most of us can hardly imagine. She lost her only son Jakee nine years ago, and earlier this year she said goodbye to her husband Charley. Through all of that heartache she kept writing. She put her prayers, her memories, and her love on paper year after year. Her family and friends finally encouraged her to gather those poems into something lasting, and that is how this beautiful book of legacy was born.

This collection speaks to anyone who has ever loved deeply or grieved deeply. It reminds us that faith holds steady even when life does not. It shows how powerful words can be when they are honest and poured straight from the heart.
