Òrìsà Yemọja
Òrìsà is literally Ẹni Orí ṣà dá (One who was specially created by their spirit self) and not what your Arabian and European overlords told you they are.
An Ifá verse says "Ènìyàn nií d'Òrìsà" [Humans (Ènìyàn {The Chosen One}) become Òrìsà]. Orishas are personifications of the forces and phenomena of life, The sometimes destructive wind that brings change or fresh beginnings (Ọya); The technology that feeds and defends us (Ògún); The electricity, fiery vengeance, and sheer willpower (Sango); Meditation, sober reflection, wisdom, healing, care (Òsun); Precision, mathematics, Simple and Complex Harmonic Motions, Statistics, war strategy, Projectiles, (Oṣoosì); Medicine, pharmacology, chemistry, alchemy (Ọ̀sanìn).
These phenomena and forces of life are also exhibited by some outstanding humans in the history of the Yorùbá, who are now seen as the personification of those forces, and just like St. George is the Patron Saint of England, Ògún is the Patron Òrìṣà of Ìrè, Ṣàngó is for Òyó, Ọbàtálá is for Ifẹ̀, Ọrúnmìlà is for Òkè Ìgẹ́tì, Ọ̀sun for Òṣogbo, Yemọja for Abeokuta, Oduduwa is for the Yoruba nation and so on
Now that we know that we have the ability to get to 'perfection' [Òrìsàhood], see the Orisas as HUMAN QUALITIES, These qualities can be heard in their individual panegyrics. In commemoration of the Yemoja day in Brazil yesterday, let's take Yemoja and see if the World will be a better place if humans can emulate her;
Yemọja ARẸWÀ OBIRIN
[Yemọja the beautiful Woman]
Aṣ'ọ̀ọ̀gùn fún ni má gba ẹ̀jẹ́
[Who CURES at no cost]
Yemọja ògb'órí ìtàgé p'olóbì l'ọ́jà
[One who gracefully multitasks]
Yemọja yèyé ọmọ eja
[Preserver of Marine life]
Af'idẹ re'̣mọ
[One who pacifies a child with toys of bronze].
Ab'ẹ̀rín ẹ̀yẹ l'ẹ́nu
[Whose face is never without sweet smiles]
Imagine a World of Orisas, living their lives to please OLODÙMARÈ, we can build one, because humans become Orisas, be the superlative of the good things you love doing.
