Big shout out to my guy big_ern_qb for his induction into the NWTF Grand National Calling Championships Hall of Fame. It’s rare that something so deserved gets recognized.
Ernie Calandrelli started his outdoor experiences in 1956, exploring the western New York landscape with his father and uncles, and his foundation for teaching and helping others dates back to these early adventures. The fire to compete and help others was fueled by early encounters with Paul Butski, the late Dick Kirby and Ben Rodgers Lee. Placing second in his first amateur turkey calling contest in 1977 set the stage for a decade of competition calling success. He competed 10 times in the Grand Nationals, finishing third in 1987. Ernie also won the U.S. Open Gobbling, Pennsylvania State, Appalachian Mountain Regional, Potato City Open and three New York State Opens, plus the World Goose Calling Championship. In total, Ernie has won or placed in more than 100 contests across the United States and Canada. He has also judged and emceed the Grand Nationals 15 times, along with all the major calling contests and many state and open competitions.

Ernie was a significant member of the Quaker Boy product design team through his career. For 35 years, he served as the director of public relations at Quaker Boy, during which time he shared his passion for the outdoor lifestyle through seminars, video productions, trade shows, print, and social media. As one of the original life members of the NWTF, Ernie continues to passionately share the NWTF message and mission.

My Story

Hello, I am a fly fishing guide for the Hungry Trout Resort in Wilmington NY. I am also the Head Hunting Guide and the Office Manager. I feel very privledged to be a part of such a great team.

I was blessed to grow up in the Fishing and Hunting industry. My father owns and operates Niagara River Guide Service, one of the first full time operations in that part of the Great Lakes. Hunting and fishing was a way of life for you me so I was destined to make it my way through life.

I’ve been quite nomadic through my guiding career but I found my way to the Adirondacks in 2007 and never looked anywhere else again. The Adirondacks have so much to offer the outdoorsman or woman. Endless hiking, climbing, fishing, hunting, mountain biking or whatever else you would love to do in the outdoors is here at our fingertips. Calling the High Peaks home has been an experience I could not have imagined.

A few years ago I was blessed to have my French Brittany “Louis” join me. Lou has been a true pleasure. I can't take much credit for Louis’ skill. He may be the “one dog” that everyone gets to own once in their life. He has a hell of a nose and to date at just three young years he has pointed well over a thousand wild birds for my guests. At this age I am just starting to see what this dog can truly offer me.
