From David Yankee:
My mind is blown! The last couple years I thought it would be neat to put a collar on a coyote that I had trapped, with my information on it and release it to see where else some one might find it. I honestly figured that we would just kill it nearby a little later on in the season. After checking with the division of wildlife, in 2022 I collared 2, we killed one of them later on and one remained unaccounted for. I just figured it got hit on the road somewhere and forgot about it. This year I collared 4, 2 were killed recently, less than 5 miles from where I trapped them, and 2 still remain unaccounted for. Well today I received a phone call from a gentleman that has called in one of my collared coyotes while hunting last night and let me know the location of where it was killed. South of LANCASTER Ohio! That’s 107 miles if you go in a straight line, and you know it didn’t. Just to survive crossing I-70, I-71, 40, and I-33 multiple times is incredible in itself. This male coyote was collared, and released on January 20th, 2022. I learned in college that coyotes have been known to travel far distances in search of their own territory, and to find a mate, but actually seeing it happen has blown my mind! I have always wondered how we can kill so many and they just keep pouring in like nothing ever happened. I have the upmost respect for all wildlife that I pursue and this intensifies this.
