The great affordability crisis that is breaking America — The Atlantic

Next time a state politician gives us the excuse that it’s a “federal issue” share this thoroughly researched article with them—

“And though there are many nationwide policies that could end the crisis, they all seem unlikely to pass through the country’s broken Congress; the brightest glimmer of hope lies in housing and health-care policy by individual states.”

In one of the best decades the American economy has ever recorded, families were bled dry.

More than half of waterborne disease outbreaks occur after heavy rains, as water purification infrastructure can't keep up with the volume. With the Trump administration relaxing requirements for proper sewage infrastructure, it's not getting better anytime soon.

Phone Messages and Emails Needed

“As new data emerges, cyanotoxin levels are becoming an increasing concern in public water supplies. This report contains a review of related scientific and epidemiological findings, and demonstrates the need for a mandatory surveillance registry for ALS in the State of Vermont.”
—Cyanobacterial Toxin Exposure And the Risk of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) in Vermont, A Proposal for a Mandatory State Registry

If you want our state, the State of Vermont, to establish an ALS Registry so we can find a cure, ask Chairman Lippert to take testimony on H.258.

Only takes a moment ... send a note to [email protected] :

"Please take testimony on and pass H.258 without further delay. We need your leadership, Chairman Lippert, to help us protect ourselves and our families and support the doctors searching for a cure for this horrible disease. Thank you."

Governor Phil Scott’s Department of Health has denied requests from doctors to establish a registry so now we must turn to the Legislative Branch.

Creating a better world is a team sport, and we all know many hands make light work. And it is in OUR hands.

Thank you in advance!

Please get this out to other Vermonters that care, to medical professionals, and families anywhere who have suffered from the cruel disease—ALS.

CALLS NEEDED TODAY and TOMORROW
802.828.2228

Sh*t Flows Downhill and, in Vermont, Downstream ...

... and it is getting worse. The numbers from last year are in from Lake Champlain International, the only organization tracking the travesty and consistently calling for change.

Sewage Diversions By Year
2019: 212
2018: 164
2017: 183
2016: 154

(Numbers prior to 2015 are not publicly available. We have self-reported numbers from 2016 forward because we had to pass a law to require the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources to notify us when are waters were being contaminated with human pathogens.)

Those numbers represent hundreds of millions of gallons of untreated human feces and urine mixed with gutter waste laced with animal excrement, heavy metals, and pesticides. Then, of course, it all mixes with the runoff from industrial agriculture's hundreds of millions of gallons of livestock waste and Casella's poisonous landfill leachate.

Why is it getting worse? Bureaucrats and, ironically, climate-change denying politicians will blame it on the rain. We all know rain doesn't cause pollution. Inadequately regulated development overseen by trickle-down politicians and insufficient infrastructure are the causes.

Who are the worst offenders? Rutland and Montpelier, by far. Rounding out the top five are St. Albans, Burlington, and Middlebury.

When will it change? When we change our expectations of our public officials and government agencies.

If you, like me and many others, want to be the change, please leave a message for your representative at 802.828.2228:

" The Executive Branch is ignoring the 2011 Statewide Bacteria TMDL and Act 64, which mandated all new permits be issued accounting for no further degradation of water quality. Please uphold the law. Protect our waters. Protect our economy. Protect our health. Stop the flow of fecal matter into our drinking and recreational water. No more new permits for developers unless they pay the true costs. Invest in Vermont and Vermonters. Now. Thank you."

We Have a Right-To-Know When Our Own State and Towns Are Spraying Pesticides!

Calls/Emails Needed Today!!

If you want our state, the State of Vermont, to notify us when they, power and rail corporations, and even our own towns are spraying poisons into our air and water, ask Chairwoman Partridge to take testimony on H.271 introduced by Representative Brian Cina.

Only takes a moment ... leave a message at 802.828.2228 or email [email protected] :

"Please take testimony on and pass H.271 without further delay. We need your leadership, Chairwoman Partridge, to help us protect ourselves and our families from these known poisons. Thank you."

Governor Phil Scott has ignored repeated requests to have his agencies notify us when they and others are spraying dangerous poisons so now we must turn to the Legislative Branch.

Calls/Emails Needed Today!!

Safe swimming and healthy beaches!

If you want the State of Vermont, in light of the increasing pollution threats from fecal matter and cyanobacteria, to require reasonable testing of our beaches and swimming holes--ask Chairwoman Pugh to take testimony on H.264 introduced by Representative Brian Cina.

Only takes a moment ... leave a message at 802.828.2228 or email [email protected] :

"Please take testimony on and pass H.264. We need your leadership to protect our public health, Chairwoman Pugh. Thank you."

Governor Phil Scott has ignored repeated requests to have his agencies increase their oversight of our recreational waters to protect our public health so now we must turn to the Legislative Branch.

Creating a better world is a team sport, and we all know many hands make light work. And it is in OUR hands.

Thank you in advance!

Human and Industrial Waste Spreading in Our Communities

Would you like to know when your town government or a local business is spreading human fecal matter from septic tanks or sludge and its PFAS poisons from treatment plants on ballfields where our kids play or cornfields next to your favorite stream?

Representatives Brian Chia Cina, Selene Colburn, and Robin Chesnut-Tangerman think we should have the right to know when our air, soil, and water have the potential to be contaminated, and so do I.

If you agree that we have a right to know, please send a note to Chairwoman Sheldon today at [email protected] and ask her to take up H.261. Then send a note to your local representatives and ask them to let the chairwoman know this bill is important to you and your family.

Need help with the process? James Ehlers is here for you.

MLK: Proud To Be Maladjusted

Stay maladjusted, Brothers and Sisters.

“I am sure that we will recognize that there are some things in our society, some things in our world, to which we should never be adjusted,” King said. “There are some things concerning which we must always be maladjusted if we are to be people of good will. We must never adjust ourselves to racial discrimination and racial segregation. We must never adjust ourselves to religious bigotry. We must never adjust ourselves to economic conditions that take necessities from the many to give luxuries to the few. We must never adjust ourselves to the madness of militarism, and the self-defeating effects of physical violence.”

Opinion | The Party That Ruined the Planet

No one can claim to be a guardian of the planet while appropriating trillions of dollars to the war industry. I’m sure anyone who reflects upon this for even a brief period of time will see the hypocrisy and the culpability of all those in power.

This left-right divisive rhetoric is corrosive and a convenient cover for the affluent, the real perpetrator. Senator Patrick Leahy controls the budget.

Follow the money.

Republican climate denial is even scarier than Trumpism.
