A few random thoughts amidst my postpartum haze…
1. If you’re wondering how you’ll be able to love your next baby as much as the first (and second), don’t worry. Your heart just grows
2. Postpartum recovery is no joke. This has been the hardest recovery. I’m not toughing anything out and have lined up allll the help! A visit back to , filling 5 (yes five) Rxs, and a postpartum pelvic floor therapy visit at will help me feel my best
3. I might line up a visit with an IBCLC and therapist soon too so I can practice what we preach: take care of yourself, you can’t fill from an empty cup. A happier mom is a happier baby
4. A deep latch is key. Protect thy nips
5. Big transition! Survive, not thrive is the goal these first few days. No room for mom guilt up in here. As long as everyone is fed, listened to, and kissed goodnight, it’s a win.
6. I was amazed at the care I received at Forsyth Hospital. My L&D nurse and one of my PP nurses were both 8 mos pregnant. Two of my providers at were also in their 3rd trimester. Pregnancy js a LOT to handle and I’m so impressed with these ladies dedicating their energy to helping moms while they’re going through it themselves. To all of the birth workers who are in the trenches with us, and to those who are out of the trenches but continue to channel their expertise and passion into helping moms, thank you for the important work that you do
7. SNACKS. If you’re expecting, look your partner in the eye and say, “keep me fed with snacks, water and coffee and we’ll be alright.” Truly, I’d forget to eat if it weren’t for my husband. Grateful to see him fully embrace the trenches right along with me
8. The end of pregnancy is HARD. I see you out there. Stay strong
9. I’m so grateful for my core team and city leads for manning the Mom League fort while I’m out!
I think that’s it for now! Onto more baby snuggles…and survival, of course! 🤍 xoxo, Kelly
