Welcome, Dog Lovers! So, I started making custom dog collars under my brand name, Fashion-Hound.

Since 2007, we are your go-to resource on all things dog in every aspect of caring for your canine. The Canine Journal story starts with a devoted dog-lover who wanted to save all the dogs but did not have the space, time, or money to do so physically. I searched high and low but could not find anything that was both high-quality and a stylish accessory for my best friend. So, I started sewing and

created a stylish collar that captured the essence of fashion and quality I was seeking. As my dog Domino began strutting around the neighborhood, friends, family, and neighbors took notice and started placing orders. Fashion-Hound was born. The success of these high-quality products was built into the concept - customers were encouraged to place custom orders if they did not see exactly the size or color combination they desired. Our customers embraced the idea of creating unique accessories for their pets. But I quickly realized that I loved writing about the pups more than I liked sewing. So, we transitioned over time to more of a one-stop resource for all dog tips, questions, and concerns. People started writing in about their sick dogs for help from me, our online community members, and our certified vets. So now, the sewing of collars and leashes has stopped, but my desire to help dogs and their owners continues. And, through our new brand, Canine Journal, we can offer our community members a more focused website to deliver the articles they want to create a better life for our four-legged friends. Cruelty toward animals still happens—and it always leaves a mark.

The small moments of care matter more than we think: a steady hand, a warm blanket, someone who speaks up.

Have you ever stepped in for an animal, or seen someone do something small that made a big difference?

lot of people use the terms "Pit Bull" and "American Bully" as if they're the same dog.

They're not.

At first glance, it's easy to see why people get confused. Both are muscular, powerful-looking dogs that share some ancestry and often get lumped together online.

But once you start looking closer, there are some pretty significant differences in size, build, temperament, energy level, and even what these dogs were originally bred for.

In fact, many people are surprised to learn that they've been identifying one breed as the other for years.

If you've ever seen a dog and wondered, "Is that a Pit Bull or an American Bully?" you're definitely not alone.

Think you could tell the difference without looking it up?

A shelter dog was at the top of his summer bucket list. ❤️

When Cai visited the shelter, he wasn't looking for the perfect dog. He was looking for a friend.

Then he met Waylon.

The connection was instant. The two hugged, stayed close, and chose each other from the very beginning. Now, every day after school, Waylon is waiting at the door, ready to greet his best friend.

Sometimes the dog you rescue ends up rescuing you right back. 🐾

A couple was enjoying a walk when something inside a public trash can caught their attention.

At first, they thought it was a raccoon.

Then they looked closer. 💔🐶

Buried beneath cups, bottles, and garbage was a tiny dog, alive and staring back at them.

Shocked, they immediately pulled him to safety and started calling for help.

The little dog, later named Oscar, had clearly been through a terrible ordeal. But thanks to the people who stopped, cared, and refused to look away, his story didn't end there.

A local rescuer stepped in, helping Oscar through surgeries, recovery, and months of rehabilitation.

Today, the dog who was once discarded like trash is safe, loved, and getting the second chance he always deserved. ❤️

It's heartbreaking to think someone could do this.

It's inspiring to remember that someone else chose to help.

Most delivery drivers expect to drop off a package and move on.

Kenzie thought this stop would be no different.

Then she noticed something unusual attached to a fence.

A basket full of tennis balls.

And a sign.

"Hi, I'm Juniper, and I just LOVE people. Please throw a ball for me to fetch if you have time."

🥹❤️

At first, Juniper didn't seem too interested. She was stretched out in the sun, enjoying a peaceful afternoon. But Kenzie decided to give it a try anyway.

One throw.

Nothing.

Two throws.

Still nothing.

But by the third throw, Juniper was up and running, happily chasing tennis balls and making a new friend.

What started as an ordinary delivery turned into a moment neither of them expected.

For Kenzie, who spends most of her day alone on the road, it was a bright spot in an otherwise quiet shift.

For Juniper, it was another chance to do what she loves most: meet people.

And maybe that's what makes this story so special.

In a world where everyone seems to be rushing somewhere, one dog and a basket of tennis balls reminded a stranger to slow down for a few minutes and share a little joy.

Sometimes the smallest acts create the biggest smiles. ❤️🐾

You defended them, grieved them, and loved them like family.

It’s the small rituals—the way they greet you at the door, the head on your knee, the morning wag—that quietly prove they were more than a pet.

What’s one little thing your dog did that made them family to you?

A county in New York just passed one of the toughest anti-tethering laws in the country, and people are divided over it.

Under the new law, dogs cannot be chained or tethered outside for more than 60 minutes within any 12-hour period. Leaving a dog tied up overnight is now illegal. Tethering is also banned during extreme temperatures.

And the penalties are serious.

Violators could face fines, lose ownership of their dog, and even spend up to a year in jail.

Supporters say it's long overdue.

They argue that no dog should spend hours or days tied to a chain, exposed to the elements, isolated from people, and unable to behave like a normal dog. Animal welfare groups point to countless cases where tethered dogs suffer from neglect, loneliness, dehydration, and dangerous weather conditions.

Others believe the law goes too far.

Some responsible dog owners use tie-outs while gardening, camping, spending time outdoors, or supervising their dogs in areas without fences. Critics argue that not every tethered dog is being mistreated.

So where should the line be?

Should keeping a dog chained for extended periods be considered animal cruelty?

Should jail time be on the table?

Or is this government overreach into how people care for their pets?

One thing is certain: this law has sparked a national conversation about what dogs deserve and how society should respond when those standards aren't met.
