Most people don’t fail at starting a school because they lack passion.

They get stuck because they don’t know:

1) Where to start
2) What actually matters
3) What mistakes to avoid

I’ve been through it.

That’s why I’m hosting this webinar.
To give you the real, not the polished version.

If starting a school has been on your mind, you need to be in this room.

I didn’t start out knowing how to open a school.

I was a teacher.
Then an assistant principal.
My first principal role was at the school I founded. And I faithfully stepped into building something from the ground up.

And let me be clear—
there were things I got right… and things I would never do again.

That’s the part people don’t talk about.

In this webinar, I am.

If you want to learn from someone who has actually done this work, not just studied it, join me.

I’ve been sitting on this for a while.

Because the truth is…
If I had to open a school again, there are things I would do very differently.

After supporting the opening of multiple schools, both charter and private, I see the process in a whole new way.

So I’m hosting a free webinar:
“I Opened a School, So Can You”

I’m breaking down the 10 things I would do differently to launch a school that actually lasts.

If you’ve ever thought about starting a school, this is for you.

04/08/2026

Let’s talk about one of the most common questions I get:

“How much does it cost to start a school?”

And the real answer is…

It depends...
but not in the way people think.

First: Yes, the model matters

Charter Schools
• Public, tuition-free
• State funding comes after approval

But what people don’t realize is…

You still need startup capital BEFORE approval for things like:
• planning and application development
• consultants/support (if needed)
• early hiring or stipends
• initial operational setup

Private Schools
• Independently funded
• May be supported through:
– tuition
– private pay
– scholarships (in some states, like NC Opportunity Scholarships)
– donors or grants

So while families may receive funding support…

That does NOT eliminate the need for your startup capital and financial plan

Now here’s the part most people miss

The question is not just: “How much does it cost?”

The real question is:
“What is my strategy for funding, sustainability, and growth?”

Because I’ve seen people:

• open with money… and still struggle
• start small… and build something strong and sustainable

Here’s the truth I teach founders:

You can start smaller than people think.

But you cannot skip:

• financial planning
• enrollment strategy
• operational structure
• sustainability thinking

Because when those pieces are missing…

That’s when costs spiral, timelines get pushed, and schools struggle after opening.

So instead of asking:

“How much money do I need?”

Start asking:

“What do I need to build something that actually works?”

If you’ve been thinking about starting a school, I’m curious:

What’s the number you’ve had in your head?

(And be honest... I want to see where people are starting from.)

Over the next few weeks, I’m going to keep breaking this down so you can move forward with clarity and a real plan.

Most people who want to start a school never do.

And it’s not because they aren’t passionate.
It’s not because they don’t have a vision.

It’s because of these 3 mistakes:

1. They focus on the idea… but not the plan

“I want to start a school that…”

That’s the easy part.

But how will it run?
How will it be funded?
How will students enroll?

2. They underestimate how much structure is required

A school isn’t just a classroom.

It’s an organization.

That means systems, staffing, operations, and strategy.

3. They try to figure it all out alone

This is the one that keeps people stuck the longest.

Starting a school without a roadmap will have you:

• overthinking
• second guessing
• starting and stopping

Here’s the truth:

The difference between people who want to start a school and people who actually do…

Is clarity.

If you’ve ever thought about starting a school, I’m curious:

👉🏾 Which of these have you struggled with the most?

Let’s clear something up… because this is where a lot of people get confused.

Charter schools are NOT private schools.

The process to open them is different.
The funding is different.
The approval path is different.

But here’s what most people don’t tell you:

👉🏾 The level of planning required to do it WELL is the same.

Let me explain.

Charter Schools
• Public, tuition-free
• State-funded
• Require a formal application + approval process

Private Schools
• Independently funded (tuition, scholarships, donors)
• More flexibility in structure and design
• No charter approval process

So yes...the path is different.

But whether you’re building a charter or a private school…

You still need:

• a clear vision
• a strong academic model
• a student recruitment strategy
• a staffing plan
• systems for operations and culture
• a plan for sustainability

👉🏾 This is where many founders get it wrong.

They focus so much on getting approved (for charter)…
or getting started quickly (for private)…

That they skip the level of planning required to actually build something that lasts.

I teach and support founders through the same core framework no matter which path they choose:

Vision → Structure → Ex*****on

Because opening the school is one thing…

👉🏾 Building a school that actually thrives is something else.

If you’ve been thinking about starting a school, I’m curious:

👉🏾 Are you more interested in charter or private — and why?

Drop it below 👇🏾

Over the next few weeks, I’m going to keep breaking this process down so you can move forward with clarity and confidence.

There was a moment I’ll never forget.

Standing in front of my students…
Looking around the room…
And realizing:

“We actually built this.”

Not just a classroom.
Not just a school.

But a space where students felt seen, challenged, and believed in.

What people don’t always see is everything that came before that moment.

The long nights.
The uncertainty.
The planning.
The decisions nobody prepares you for.

Because starting a school isn’t just about having a vision.

It’s about building the structure to support that vision.

And that’s where most people get stuck.

Not because they aren’t capable…
But because nobody ever taught them how the process actually works.

Over the next few weeks, I’m going to start sharing more about:

• What it really takes to start a school
• The biggest mistakes I see founders make
• How to move from idea → actual school

If you’ve ever thought about starting a school, drop a “SCHOOL” below or send me a message.

I’ve been where you are — and I’d love to help you think it through.
