AITA for getting annoyed at my mum for not trying to learn the language of the country she has lived in for 20 years?

Moving this further up because people seem to disregard the edits: her English skills are adequate, she knows enough to get by but struggles from time to time.

So I (19F) just got into an argument with my mum (47), and long story short it all started from when I made a comment about how her and my father can barely speak English, despite having lived here for 20 years.

What started off as something I said in passing blew up into something which led to an explosive argument and lead to me storming off to my room. You see here’s the thing, she was complaining about how it’s so easy for people who live in England and speak English to get their way and sort out their problems. I then said maybe if she had actually put in the effort to learn the language and the customs of the country she lived in, she could effectively sort out her problems too.

Here’s what she said, that there’s no need to ‘waste’ her time to become more educated or learn the language of a country she doesn’t see her self staying in for long. She also proceeded to talk about how she is a mother and doesn’t have time to invest in learning the language.

Right. Okay. That doesn’t make any sense.

She then said she doesn’t want to become educated, or learn about other cultures or customs and just wants to focus on religion because she’s an old woman.

I then remembered something she used to preach about all the time...

AITA for causing my friend to get expelled?

I'm a huge graphomaniac and since I was capable of scribbling down something that actually made sense I've had this sort of folder (?) consisting mainly of wanna-be travel reportages and columns for school newspaper, random thoughts, literature annonations and doodles.

I usually lend my literature notes to my friends for exams so I wasn't surprised when my friend Tanya asked whether she could go throught the whole bunch of them because of her thesis. I didn't have time to "pick out" just the literature parts resulting in Tanya taking the whole folder. And she gave it back 2 months ago. Since that she'd barely talked to me (which I found bizzare but blamed thesis-related stress) not even when after she presented her work and graduated. She only wrote me she got A+. I supposed it was just friends

Almost a month ago one of my friends sent me a link to Tanya's university site, they always upload thesis of their student for inspirational reasons. I guess? And he advised me to read Tanya's piece.

Out of 150 pages there were just 40 without my "content" plastered on them. Which would be alright if she had included me in her resources but that didn't happen - she basically claimed my ideas. Not only she wrote about my grandfather who was an architect like it was her ancestor but also commandeered my experience when I was in protests in Russia, including my photos and illustrations.

I texted her immediately and she blocked me everywhere. If it was something less important like some school essay I'd...

AITAH for leaving my wife after she requested a divorce on paper so she could qualify for government assistance?

I (35M) was told by my wife (34F) that she wanted a divorce so she could qualify for government assistance. We have been together 5 years and married for 2. We both live together with her two children (15M) (7F). She has a masters degree in education and is in good health. She quit her job roughly a year ago to pursue a career as a life coach/ mindfulness instructor. Basically wanted to be a content creator for Instagram and TikTok. I was very against it due to our usually tight budget and the fact she receives very little help from her children’s father. I loved this woman and wanted to be a supportive husband so I reluctantly agreed for a short time to help her try it out with the assumption if it wasn’t working she would go back to full time employment. I was working at one point between n 6-7 days a week to try and make enough for us to live. Well it didn’t take off like she thought and after some tough conversations she found a job as a middle school substitute teacher as it still allows her a somewhat flexible schedule for her content creation and time to be more involved in her kids lives (bus pickup, after school sports). This arrangement is still not working as it pays very little and we live in an expensive part of the north east. She realistically needs a full time decent paying job like she had the first few years of our relationship. Now to present day during conversation again I ask her to...

AITAH for telling my wife that I could hire someone to cook and clean if she can't and she can instead go work?

So my wife and I have been married for a year and we've been together for 3 years total. I'm 40 and she's 36 and we have no kids. In her previous marriage, she was always a sahw and when we started dating she said she enjoyed it and asked if I was fine with that. She said she was a good cook and "always stayed busy" and I said I was fine with it if the house was clean and I was well fed, then I was happy.

I've been a high earner for awhile and have always been frugal. I've saved over 50% of my income since I was 20 and now have a nice nest egg and a paid off house. Well recently we traveled to Colombia and liked it so much that we decided I had enough saved to quit my job and we could move there and rent my house out and live off the rental income and my portfolio.

We've been living here for 2 months and my wife has stopped cooking and cleaning like she used to. She says it's because the food here is so cheap that "what's the point of cooking". I told her that I preferred home cooked meals and that if she wasn't holding up her end of the bargain and cooking and cleaning, that she'd need to get a job and I could just hire a local to do it for $400/mo or whatever.

She got really mad and started saying how could she get a job in a low wage country and...

AITAH for making no effort to join my dad's girlfriend and her kids for their weekly dinner out?

My dad has been dating Cass for two years now and they moved in together in January of this year. Dad has me (17m) and my mom died 8 years ago. Cass has a 12 year old son and a 6 year old daughter with different dads and neither have a relationship with their dad anymore so we all live together all the time.

Cass and her kids have dietary issues with dairy and most meats. They can be around people who eat food with them but they don't eat any dairy or meat and they substitute a lot and cross contamination is a big deal. Cass has found it hard to eat out with the dairy issue and she found a place that is totally dairy free so now her and her kids have a twice weekly thing of going there. Once just for them and the second time anyone can join. Since Cass and has moved in with dad she has invited me to join them every Friday at this place and I have said no every time. I don't enjoy the substitutes I have tried since they move in and I cook for myself or dad cooks for the two of us since he doesn't always want the dairy substitutes either. He does it to support Cass and her kids and not because he likes it. I just skip meals with that and take care of myself.

For the last couple of weeks Cass has been complaining that I make no effort to join their weekly dinner out where anyone can join. She...

AITA for asking my roommate to leave the room while crying over her breakup with her boyfriend so I could sleep?

Sorry for the new account, my roommate knows my main. All names are fake for privacy purposes.

I’m a college freshman and I opted to go for a random roommate. I was matched with this girl Donna, and so far we’ve gotten along pretty well. Donna has a boyfriend, Malcolm, who she’s constantly on the phone with from the time she wakes up until the time she goes to sleep.

A few weeks ago, I wanted to go to sleep early since I had an 8 AM midterm the next day. I told Donna this in advance and she said she’d be quiet. I fell asleep at about 9:30. However, at around 1 am, I woke up to the sound of Donna scream-crying—literal screaming, like someone had just died. I immediately got out of bed and went over to her and asked her what was wrong, thinking something horrible had just happened.

It took me a little bit to get it out of her, but she managed to tell me that Malcolm had just broken up with her over text. I felt awful for her (no one deserves that) and spent a while trying to comfort her, but she wouldn’t calm down at all. She just kept sobbing and sobbing very loudly, which is very understandable since it was my understanding that they had been together for a while.

Here’s where I might be the a__hole though: eventually, it started to get closer to 2:30 AM and Donna still wasn’t calming down. But I needed my sleep since I had a midterm in 5...

AITA for Pushing Back When My Parents Tried to Control My Stepson's Love Life?

My mom would swear up and down she didn't have a favorite, but she CLEARLY did. She was kind and loving to all of us, but she clearly adored our brother the most (her first child, her only boy). Then my sister, who was the responsible one and literally helped run the household because she's very take charge. Then me, I'm the "weird one." Read: the most liberal and opinionated one and the least like my parents in terms of personality — my sister and my dad basically shared a personality, and my brother was pretty much the golden child, but he's a great guy and I harbor no ill will about it (he was popular in school, is charming, successful, etc — even the times he got in trouble for shenanigans in school, the teachers would still gush to my parents about what a nice kid he was so he never got in real trouble and it was true, he was never a mean spirited or spoiled kid). 😂 It's OK, I know she loved me too, she never treated me poorly or openly showed favoritism. I never really felt bad about it, but my parents didn't openly shun me or treat me s__tty or do things for them that they didn't do for me. But my sister and I used to sometimes gently tease her about our brother being the favorite, and she would vehemently deny it even though she clearly thought he hung the moon.

WIBTA for denying my deceased father's girlfriend the only two things she wanted from his estate 'to remember him by'?

My father passed away completely unexpectedly two months ago. He was twice divorced and had three children, one from his first marriage and two from the second. I’m from the second marriage.

Three years ago he found a new girlfriend. She's a very kind woman, and he quickly proposed to her. She accepted, but on the condition that he moved out of his old apartment. The apartment has nine rooms, all filled with documents, memorabilia, broken or very used designer furniture and personal items. He never moved out - he simply couldn’t muster the energy to clean it all up - and so they were never married.

His girlfriend isn't mentioned in any will, probably because he expected to be married to her soon enough for it not to matter. Legally, she inherits nothing. She's now asked us to give her two things to remember him by: a wristwatch and a silver bowl.

It just so happens that these are the two most valuable items in the entire apartment. Probably around $10,000 each.

We don't know if he promised them to her or if she’s just scoped them out when visiting him. We do know that he's already given her gifts worth around $100,000, and that she's well off financially.

We could all really use some extra money at the moment. Some of us have small children, and one is saving up for a wedding.

WIBTA for telling her that we're keeping the items, probably with the intention of selling them?

Wow, thank you for all of your...

AITAH for saying this to my daughter?

My Daughter has been in a relationship for 10 months and we really like the kid, he's a great kid, gets good grades and addresses us with "Sir" and "Ma'am" respectively. So, it's not like we disapprove..However, every month it's "Hey mom it's our 1 month can I order us grubhub?" "Its our 2 month, 3 month" ECT. You get the point.
We just moved into a bigger house, so naturally, bills are more. We haven't even received our first round of bills yet and we're apprehensive about blowing money. Everytime she orders it's at least 35 dollars!
So, here's the questionable statement I made. "Guys, I love you both and you know we like having you around boyfriend, so don't take this the wrong way. Not every month is an anniversary and doesn't require spending 30-50 dollars. I know they feel special and that's great but Dad and I can't afford to blow money right now"
There it is..I was met with dagger stares and my daughter exclaimed "Wow mom, thanks for taking a dump on our happiness!" Boyfriend just looked embarrassed and didn't say anything. He's usually the one trying to get her under control. My daughter has a hot head like her Father. Am I the a__hole?? I don't feel like I should have to fork out money for food, rides to special locations and go out of my way everytime they make it another month. 14yo daughter btw.

Info: she's paid 200 a month, I had already prepared dinner with more than enough to go around and the questionable statement I made was...

AITAH for telling my boyfriend I don't want him to be the birth partner for his pregnant female friend?

I (23F) have been with my boyfriend (25M) for about a year and a half. We live together and things have been pretty good. He's really loyal and protective of the people he cares about, especially family.

That's part of why this situation feels so complicated. He has a close female friend (25F) who he's known for years. They never dated, but she used to be involved with his younger brother.

Their friendship pre-dates her going out with his brother. Now she's also friends with the brother she used to date, but nowhere near as close as she is to my boyfriend. I've never really suspected anything going on between them, but I can admit it took me a little while to get used to dating a guy who had a really close female friend.

I've just never experienced that before. They talk all the time and I'll hear her voice randomly and he's listening to her audio messages he send her. She's always having problems with guys and relies on him to coach her through it or pull her off the ledge.

He has guy friends too, and she hangs out with that whole group - she's one of those girls if you know what I mean. She's also good friends with his female cousin, so she's pretty woven into their family circle. She got pregnant by a boyfriend she hadn't been with for too long.

At first, he talked a big game and seemed supportive, but when she was around 4 months pregnant he said he wasn't ready to be a...
