One of the foundational elements of a business's online presence is online Reviews. Reviews are one of the six key elements that we measure when we conduct a digital audit for a business.

Review grades are a reflection of a business’s online review performance. Each grade in the Reviews section is determined by the percentile range a business falls into when compared to other businesses in the same industry.

Overall Review Grade
To determine the overall Review grade, the individual sections are first converted into numerical scores. This is done using the scale below:
A = 4 | B = 3 | C = 2 | D = 1 | F = 0
We divide the sum of these scores by the number of individual grades within the Reviews section. Finally, we convert that score back into a letter grade.

In this particular example, the business's overall score was a C.

Who does the most talking when you're speaking with a prospect for the first time? Is it you or them?

If it's you, then you're probably in trouble from the jump because people generally don't like being lectured or sold.

If it's the first time speaking with them, I like to ask if it's okay if I ask them a few questions (probing questions) first. They'll usually agree. So I'll ask one or two, and then I simply become an active listener for a while.

So what am I listening for? Well, I'm out to see if they'll give me their "pain points" without my ever mentioning those specific words.

I'm listening for any "pain words" like Mad, Frustrated, Tired, Concerned, to name a few.

I've always found that it's best to listen more, and talk less.

Where does Empathy fit into your business?

When marketing your business, it's key to know what your target audience's pain points are and what keeps them up at night.

And if you can see what life is like through the lens of your target prospect, then you can create an opportunity to be of help to them through your products and/or services.

Simply said, when you express Empathy, and your prospects feel that, they're more likely open to hearing what you have for them.

Having said that, it's important to understand that Empathy is NOT the same as Sympathy!

With Empathy, you're seeing things through the other person's eyes, and that's important. WIth Sympathy, you're only seeing things from your own.

So I believe that it's more important to be empathetic vs. sympathetic if you want to scale your business.

Are you guilty of cheating yourself and the growth of your business by making any of these excuses?

If so, here's some unsolicited advice. Just start small. Take 5 minutes a day. You have 5 minutes, don't you?

Commit to it. Make it real by scheduling it in your calendar so as not to avoid it and get it done.

Why should you outsource some or all of your digital marketing?

Let's face it, most every business has at least one, or perhaps several issues when it comes to their digital presence.

Some of them sit on the surface and may be obvious, others may need discovery.

In any case, ignore them at your own peril.

Then there's the issue of finding solutions. Are you a digital marketer? If not, you have to ask yourself what your time is worth chasing solutions where you have no particular expertise.

That should be a light bulb moment, and the time to consider outsourcing.

Most business owners that I meet aren't so interested in how the product or service works. What they really want is validation that the solution provided effects positive change for their business.

In the end, that's the reason I like to think that I'm not really in the business of selling digital products or services, but rather that I'm in the people pleasing business.

Our roots are based in advertising and paid media where we spent 30 years working with large national and multi-national clients. In the mid-nineties, we worked on our first digital advertising campaigns when digital marketing was in its early stages of development. Fast forward to 2015, when we established Optics Social Media, LLC to serve the social media marketing needs of local small businesses. And a natural outgrowth of that led to the expansion of our business into what is today, a full-service digital marketing agency.
