A little Woodinville Voice update: progress is slow, but steady. 🗞️🌲 We have not disappeared!

Our website is in progress, we’re building out the pieces behind the scenes, and we’re getting closer to bringing local, independent news back to Woodinville.

You may have spotted our intern, Arya, out and about this summer taking photos around town. Arya is a recent local high school graduate headed to college soon to study journalism, and he’s been helping us document the people, places and stories that make Woodinville home. Keep an eye out for him for the next two weeks!

We’re also growing the team. We’re currently hiring a part-time advertising and marketing person to join us soon, and we’re looking for freelance writers who want to tell the story of Woodinville.

And we’re now gathering sponsorships and advertising for our first month after launch. If you’re a local business or organization interested in supporting community journalism—and getting your name in front of Woodinville readers—we’d love to hear from you. We have a rate sheet to share starting September 1.

We didn’t hit our deadline on Kickstarter, and that means we have to change HOW we do this but not WHAT we do. The message is clear: people overwhelmingly want local journalism in Woodinville. And we are going to make it happen.

As we enter the final hours of our Kickstarter campaign, we're asking supporters to do something simple but powerful:

Record a quick video telling the community why you support local news and why you're backing The Woodinville Voice.

Why does local journalism matter to you? Why do you want to see a community newspaper thrive in Woodinville? What kind of stories do you want us to tell?

Post it. Tag us. Send it to us. Help us show our neighbors why this effort matters.

And while you're at it, please do three things:

✅ Donate to the Kickstarter if you haven't already.
✅ Call or text one friend and ask them to contribute before the campaign ends.
✅ Share this post and help spread the word.

We're in the final stretch, and Kickstarter is all-or-nothing. If we don't reach our goal by June 24 at 8 p.m., The Woodinville Voice doesn't launch with a built-in reporter.

At 8 p.m. on June 24, our Kickstarter campaign ends. And because it’s Kickstarter, if we don’t reach our goal, we get nothing.

The good news? The last 24 hours have been incredible. More than 70 of your neighbors have stepped up to support local news in Woodinville. The momentum is real.
But we’re not there yet.

If you’ve been thinking about contributing, waiting to see how things go, or planning to do it later, later has arrived.

The Woodinville Voice exists only if enough people decide that local news matters enough to support it. Look, I know what you're thinking.

"Have The Woodinville Voice fundraising posts become increasingly unhinged as the Kickstarter deadline approaches?"

The answer is yes.

Yes, they have.

As a cat who was given temporary control of this account, I can confirm that the humans are feeling a little anxious because they have until June 24 at 8 p.m. to reach their fundraising goal.

Apparently, funding a full-time local reporter is important. Apparently, local journalism matters. Apparently, posting a photo of a cat yelling on the internet is now part of the marketing strategy.

And honestly? Respect.

So here I am, yelling:

We've spent the last few weeks talking about fundraising, but what we're really building is something much bigger.

We're excited to tell the stories of Woodinville.

The stories of local businesses taking chances. The volunteers who quietly make this community stronger. The students, artists, coaches, entrepreneurs, neighbors, and civic leaders who shape life here every day.

We're excited to sit through the city council meetings, ask questions, explain complicated issues, celebrate community milestones, and help residents stay informed about the place they call home.

That's the future we're working toward.

But first, we have to get there.

With just 4 days left in our Kickstarter campaign, we're asking our community to help us cross the finish line. Reaching our goal means funding a full-time reporter and launching The Woodinville Voice faster and stronger.

If you believe local stories matter, now is the time to help make them possible.
