One of the things I love most about homeschooling is how we get to connect real-life experiences with our lessons. 💡✏️ We’re working through Our 50 States from and it’s been so fun!

When a lesson mentions a place we’ve visited, it sparks so many great conversations. If Paige was too young to remember, we look through pictures and talk about those trips together. Today we read about Louisiana, and it mentioned the Old State Capitol and the French Quarter—both places we’ve walked through ourselves!

Homeschooling gives us the freedom to make learning personal, memorable, and full of meaning. ❤️🌎

Derrick’s at it again—Mr. Clean himself. The RV is clean clean and ready to roll (even if storms are coming). 😅

He said, “It’s probably silly to clean it because of the upcoming storms…but the Glampin’ Gaither’s don’t ride around in a dirty rig!” 🚐✨

We may not have the fanciest or newest RV, but by golly—it’s gonna sparkle!

📍 Cataract Falls State Recreation Area

Cataract Falls has two waterfalls about 1 mile apart, on Mill Creek. They are the largest waterfalls by volume in the state of Indiana! The area was previously home to several Native American groups including Miami, Shawnee and Potawatomi.

The Cataract Falls covered bridge spans Mill Creek was built in 1876. It was the most famous and photographed covered bridges in the U.S. at one time. It is now the only covered bridge left in the county. The bridge is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

We stayed at The Retreat at Hickory Hills when visiting. It was only a 4 mile run but it would be a little farther if driving.

The Retreat at Hickory Hills welcomes RVers, tent campers, and cabin renters! This park sits on 300 acres and boasts two private lakes with tons of wildlife!

✅ Clean and welcoming park
✅ Very friendly staff all around
✅ Big rig friendly
✅ Two beautiful pools
✅ Golf cart rentals
✅Two private lakes to fish or rent a boat/kayak
✅Golf Cart/Hiking Trails (some were closed due to mud)
✅ Rusty Spur Cafe & Retail shop (weekends only)
✅Planned events on the weekends.
✅Basketball Court, Pickleball, Corn Hole, & Horseshoe Pits
✅Multiple playgrounds for the kids
✅Petting Barnyard

❌There is a smell to their water because they use well water.
❌Sites are thick/large gravel so not completely level

Unfortunately, we didn’t have the greatest weather while we were there but we made the best of it! This was our annual adults trip with our friends . When camping with friends we pull in backwards so we can face them. (Yes we are parked backwards 🤪)
We all enjoyed our time there and are making plans to bring the kids next time! The whole staff was exceptional!!
We made sure and bought our daily iced coffees from The Rusty Spur Cafe! So good!
We were determined to kayak even if it meant in the rain. The nice worker that delivered the kayaks to us said we were brave. Pretty sure that meant we were crazy 😜😂. Oh the memories! ❤️

Tip:Check out local hiking trails and waterfalls. I ran 4ish miles to a state recreation area. (More on that later)
