The first time I tried to ride on a real trail, my bike died on a hill and I thought I broke it.

Turns out it was a dirty carb. But I didn't know that then — I just felt like a failure.

That was my starting point. No motorcycle family. No mentor. Just a 50-year-old Honda, a lot of YouTube videos, and stubbornness.

Now? I've ridden the SEBDR. I've taught diagnostics at Dirt Days. I started a women's riding group with almost 80 members.

The difference isn't talent. It's time. It's showing up. It's refusing to quit when everything in you wants to.

In this video, I'm sharing how I actually built confidence — the stalls, the drops, the trailer that literally broke on the highway, and why I didn't give up.

I almost didn't submit it.

"It's not good enough." "No one will care." "Real creators don't struggle this much."

Sound familiar?

I hit submit anyway. Last week I found out that I received an Honorable Mention at the 2025 BDR Keep it 100 Film Festival and my film was featured on the stream.

The thing you're scared to put out there? Put it out there anyway.

Start messy. Get better. Keep going.

Okay so I'm still a little in shock. My film for the 2025 BDR Keep it 100 Film Festival got an Honorable Mention — and was one of only 4 HM films actually shown.

No awards on my shelf, but seeing my work screened live on youtube? That's not nothing. That's a whole lot of something.

Hey. I’m Emily. Let me tell you what this is about.

I ride a 2017 Honda CRF 250L and a 1972 Honda SL 125. I drive a 24 foot motorhome cross-country. I do my own oil changes on the bikes and the RV. I travel with two cats and a dog who have zero respect for personal space.

I’ve been wrenching on vehicles since I could drive started with snow tire swaps, worked my way up to brakes, suspension, engine work. I even owned an RV repair business during COVID. But motorcycles were new territory. My 1972 SL 125 taught me carburetors, timing, how these engines really work. Then I started riding off-road, took my MSF course, got my endorsement, and brought it all together.

And here’s what I learned: You can do more than you think you can.
