250 years ago today, 56 people signed their names to a bet that ordinary citizens could govern themselves. No king, no crown — just neighbors agreeing to figure it out together.

Two and a half centuries later, that bet still gets settled in small rooms in small towns. I watched it happen last week at Wyckoff’s centennial — a whole town out in the rain, waiting an hour for a Ferris wheel, celebrating 100 years of being a community that runs on volunteers and showing up.

Happy 250th, America. The experiment is still running, and we’re all part of it. 🇺🇸

An Independence Day civic primer framed by America's 250th birthday and Wyckoff's 100th: how the township actually works — the five-member Township Committ…

The screen-time debate in Wyckoff's schools isn't slowing down. A new district survey found two-thirds of responding parents think school-day screen time is too high — and at the June 29 Board of Education meeting, parents pushed for action, not just more data.

Ramapo Indian Hills is one step closer to a formal AI policy for students. The board took a first reading Monday on a rule that would allow tools like ChatGPT in every class at both Ramapo and Indian Hills — but students would have to cite how they used it, just like any other source. A second vote is needed before it takes effect. The board’s next meeting is July 13.

A 112-home senior community waited two years for this crossing. A state safety grant covered it entirely — not a dollar from Wyckoff taxpayers. The lines are on the pavement. The lights that make it actually safe are not.

Wyckoff just closed four months of litigation, two special meetings, and years of affordable housing disputes in about two minutes. What actually happened — and what it means for the next decade — is worth understanding.

Township Attorney David Becker announced a consent order settling Wyckoff's Fourth Round Mount Laurel affordable housing compliance, closing a process that b…

In the town’s centennial year, two students won the Louis Bay II scholarship for essays on what makes Wyckoff home — from the fishing derby at Zabriske pond to a 150-person sustainability event at the library. Meet this year’s winners:

Elizabeth G. and Julia C. were recognized at the June 9 Township Committee meeting with the Louis Bay II Future Municipal Leaders Scholarship. Both students …

Could your student use ChatGPT on their next assignment — and get credit for it?
Ramapo Indian Hills’ draft Policy 2365 would allow generative AI in every grade and every department at both high schools — but with a catch: students have to disclose the tools and prompts they used. Teachers keep the final say on each assignment, and the district just created an “AI Instructional Technology Specialist” to coach staff.
It’s only a first reading — the board votes again July 13. Here’s exactly what’s on the table 👇

A nearly $70,000 crosswalk at Wyckoff Avenue and Spring Meadow Drive — paid for entirely by a state safety grant, not your property taxes. It's striped and waiting on its flashing beacons, and officials say it's "very hazardous" until then.

The full story:

The Spring Meadow crosswalk on Wyckoff Avenue is painted but not yet open, awaiting installation of two rectangular rapid flashing beacons. At the June 9 Tow…
