Groveville/Yardville Memorial Day Committee
MONDAY MAY27,2019 IS DECLARED "A DAY TO REMEMBER" by the Yardvile/Groveville Memorial Day Committee. This year marks the 149th annual Yardville/Groveville Memorial Day Parade which is believed to be the second oldest Memorial Day Parade in the United States. The 1870 historic parade began in 1870 just two years after Memorial day was first observed at Arlington National cemetery as Decoration Day. The parade steps off at 8:30 am on Monday May 27, 2019, forms on Sunnybrae Boulevard and proceeds to South Broad Street to Yardville Allentown road. Right onto Route 156 then left onto South Broad Street, proceeds into Groveville with a right onto Main Street and then into the Groveville United Methodist Cemetery via Church Street. Although the parade route has been modified over the years, it has always ended at the cemetery and is followed by a brief Memorial Service. Saint Vincent DePaul Church will provide after the parade refreshments including coffee donuts, hot dogs and more in the auditorium after the service.
IN THE EVENT OF RAIN , THE CEMETERY SERVICE WILL BE HELD AT THE SAINT Vincent DePaul AUDITORIUM AT 9:00am
On Memorial Day, which is the unofficial stat of summer, the parade Committee encourages everyone to watch this historic parade, proudly fly the flag of the United States and remember those servicemen and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and the freedoms that we enjoy!
