A coordinated effort is underway in Yonkers after the fire at 50 Riverdale Avenue displaced dozens of residents.

City agencies—including the Yonkers Fire and Police Departments, Office of Emergency Management, and other partners—are working together to support families as recovery continues.

A donation drive is now open at Yonkers City Hall through May 13 collecting:

• Clothing (all sizes, including kids)
• Toiletries & hygiene kits
• Baby supplies
• Pet food & supplies
• Bedding & bags

Every contribution helps families begin to rebuild.

A 17-year-old is in stable condition after being shot by an off-duty New York State Trooper during an attempted carjacking in Yonkers, police said.

The incident happened Sunday afternoon at a Mobil gas station on Kimball Avenue. Authorities say the teen approached the trooper with a knife and entered her vehicle, prompting her to fire one shot.

The suspect drove off, crashed nearby, and was later taken into custody on Midland Avenue. A knife was recovered at the scene.

He is expected to face multiple charges. The trooper was not injured.

The Yonkers Police Department is investigating. State Police are conducting a standard internal review.

A major housing upgrade is underway in Yonkers. 🏠

City, county, and state officials marked the start of a $35 million project to convert the Palisades Towers complex from gas to electric service.

The first phase includes installing new induction stoves across all 415 units, after residents went nearly two years without gas due to deteriorating infrastructure.

The full project will bring upgraded electrical systems, modern heating and cooling, and first-time access to air conditioning for many residents.
