Yesterday was all about Mangrove Madness!

On this new episode of Wild Palm Beaches, we’re diving into one of the most important ecosystems on earth… mangroves!
Mangroves are natures natural seawall.
A living fortress.
A nursery for the ocean.
These roots protect our coastlines from storms…
Filter dirty water…
And shelter baby fish before they ever hit the open ocean.
And here in The Palm Beaches, a powerful crew is stepping up to defend this watery world…
MANG is on a mission to restore mangroves, rebuild habitat, and bring life back to Palm Beach County’s waterways one mangrove at a time.
Because when mangroves disappear… The whole coastline feels it.
But when mangroves come back?
The wildlife comes back.
The fish come back.
The lagoon comes back.
And that’s what makes this story so BIG!

Students from Palm Springs Middle School spent Friday at Hypoluxo Scrub Natural Area with Superintendent Mike Burke (“Mr. Burke”) as part of a PBC School District “Burke at Work” program outing.
The event was shared on the school’s social platforms showing Mr. Burke participating with the students in the natural area and Wild Palm Beaches was there to capture the educational trip for their upcoming season.
The kids learned that Gopher tortoises are an important ecological “keystone species” in Florida scrub ecosystems. Their burrows provide shelter for many other wildlife species, making them great subjects for hands-on environmental education.
The Natural Area is roughly 97 acres of scrub habitat with trails and educational opportunities about Florida’s native ecosystems.
It’s an excellent outdoor learning space for students to connect classroom science with real ecosystems, wildlife, and conservation challenges.
