The place was dark, damp, and filled with the sound of dripping water, but it was the only shelter she could find. Her puppies were tiny and fragile, unable to even open their eyes properly, yet they instinctively crawled toward their mother whenever they felt cold or hungry.
The mother dog was exhausted and starving. Her body had become weak from days without proper food, but she never left her puppies alone for long. Every small sound made her alert, as she protected them from rats, stray animals, and the cold wind that entered through broken walls.
Each day, she forced herself to search for food. She wandered through empty streets and garbage piles, her legs trembling with weakness. One evening, she found a small piece of leftover meat near a broken trash bin. Her stomach ached painfully, but she carefully carried it back to her puppies instead of eating it herself.
The puppies fed quietly while their mother lay beside them, watching with tired but loving eyes. That night, the temperature dropped sharply, and the wind howled through the building. She curled her body tightly around her babies, shielding them completely with her warmth.
She had no home, no comfort, and no certainty about tomorrow—but in her small, fragile world, her puppies were everything.
