NEWSVI: VIPD ARRESTS FORMER ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL ON SEXUAL ASSAULT CHARGES:

St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands – On Friday, August 22, 2025, a male student reported to his school nurse that he had been sexually assaulted during his time as a student at Joseph Gomez Elementary School.

In a statement provided to the Virgin Islands Police Department, the victim disclosed that during the 2019–2020 school year, Assistant Principal Clifton D. Boyd would remove him from class
and bring him to his office, where he was forced to perform sexual acts.

The victim stated that the abuse only ended when he transitioned out of Joseph Gomez Elementary School.
On Wednesday, November 19, 2025, an arrest warrant was issued for Clifton D. Boyd. On Friday,
November 21, 2025, at approximately 10:15 a.m., Boyd was located and taken into custody by members of the VIPD Special Operations Bureau. He was booked, processed, and transferred to the Bureau of Corrections, pending his Advice of Rights hearing scheduled for Monday, November 24,
2025.

“The VIPD remains fully committed to working alongside the Department of Justice and the Department of Education to protect our children and to uncover the full scope of Mr. Boyd’s actions.

This type of conduct is unacceptable, violates the trust placed in those who work with our youth, and undermines the very fabric of our community,” said VIPD Commissioner Brooks.

“This is a message to all: our children are the future of this community, and you will not violate them, take advantage of them, and expect to walk among law-abiding citizens with impunity. We will find you; we will arrest you; and you will live out the remainder of your days behind bars. These behaviors
are sick, and those who use our educational system or any environment granting access to our children to harm them have no place among regular citizens. They will be held accountable. They are criminals and will be treated as such. Mr. Boyd will be held accountable for these heinous crimes against our children.”

This case remains actively under investigation by the Domestic Violence & Special Victims Unit. Anyone with information related to this case is urged to contact 911, the Domestic Violence Unit at (340) 715-5534, or the Office of the Police Chief
