STRUGGLE TO LAND A JOB in GCCs? It’s because you are FOCUSING ON THE WRONG POINT!

I want to tell you the hardest truth of all time, that all the questions I received recently made me realize everyone is focusing on the wrong point.

1. How to apply fastest for job posts on LinkedIn?
2. How to stand out in among 1000 applicants on LinkedIn Jobs?
3. Shall I come to Saudi to find jobs?

Let’s treat this job search to be a normal recruitment journey.

✅ Step 1: You see the job post. —> You apply with your CV

✅ Step 2: You receive a call from HR for screening —> You answer.

✅ The rest of the part I guess you already had the answer.

So, let’s have a look at step 1 ☝️, and review your questions, does it work on the right focus?

Applying for a job is selling yourself (a reflection of your products & services) to the company. Imagine you are selling a real product to the market. People may love it because of fast delivery, immediate response from sellers, etc. But in the end, the product itself should serve properly the purpose it is supposed to serve.

The recruiter is your customer. And your customer should see the ability that you are able to bring to the job.

⁉️ Where they can see it? ➡️ Through your CV.

⁉️ Where are those abilities mentioned? ➡️ On the JOB DESCRIPTION.

Why they have to read a very GENERAL CV listing out everything about YOU and YOUR PROFESSIONAL LIFE?

⁉️ What they want to read?

➡️ A CV about YOU and the SPECIFIC SKILLS of YOURS that are listed and required by the JOB DESCRIPTION 🔥

You have 10 skills, but they require 2?
➡️ Use 70% of your CV to tell the story that highlights 2 REQUIRED SKILLS, and 30% to highlight the rest of your 3-5 skills that are RELEVANT to JD or SUPPORT 2 required skills.

So now…where will you need to shift your focus to?

🔥 the speed of applying? ❌

💁🏻 the Saudization or competitive market? ❌

✅ ✅ Focus on: Job Description and HOW TO TAILOR-MADE YOUR CV to match it!

And of course, spend time on reflecting your skills, your achievements, and start writing a story about it.

I GOT AN OFFER AT THE MOMENT I STOPPED BELIEVING IN JOB MARKET INSIGHTS!

🤯 You need to be an Arabic speaker
🤯 You need GCCs experiences
🤯 You need to be here, on this land, in KSA to find jobs
🤯 You need connections, referrals, wasta
🤯 You need white skins and Western passports T.T

Are those real insights? Yes.
Are those reality? Yes.

Are those insights really help me to feel more confident and optimistic? NO!
Are those realities motivating me to keep going with the job-hunt journey? NO!

When many ancient scientists and philosophers (like Pythagoras) stated that the Earth was spherical, not flat, few people held this belief. At that time, the common perception was that the world was flat. Many centuries later, when most people had accepted that the Earth is round, the term “flat world” re-emerged. However, this time it referred to the boom of the Internet, where everyone became connected without being physically present.

Reality had been changing over time. And it would be the reality only if you believed in them.

I would never say those beliefs were wrong. But I would say “I choose the belief that could serve me.” And those being chosen shall be beliefs that keep me motivating every day to turn on my laptop, adjust my CV, rewrite my LinkedIn, and start applying with detachments - apply, track in my sheet, and forget it.

Are the beliefs you choose today still serving you? If it is not, just forget it.

Choose the things that motivates you daily, and keep working for your target.

TÌM VIỆC - CÀNG NHIỀU KINH NGHIỆM THỬ THÁCH CÀNG LỚN

Vì sao vậy? 🤔

Trở lại con đường tìm việc, ứng tuyển sau thời gian dài đi làm thực sự không khác gì một người kết hôn lâu năm giờ phải đi hẹn hò, tán tỉnh trở lại.

Khi bạn biết nhiều hơn, thấu hiểu cuộc sống hơn, và vô cùng tự tin với chính mình, đó lại chính là thử thách vô cùng lớn trên hành trình tìm việc. Dẫu bạn là người làm trong ngành, thấu hiểu nghề nghiệp của bản thân từng chân tơ kẽ tóc, bạn đâu đó vẫn có sự cách biệt vô cùng lớn với thị trường tuyển dụng ngoài kia. Chỉ khi đặt chân vào đôi giày của “người tìm việc”, lúc này bạn mới cảm nhận sâu sắc thị trường đã khác biệt ra sao so với 3-5 năm trước lúc bạn mới nhận offer.

- Kinh tế đi xuống, họ thậm chí không thể offer mức lương tương đương vị trí hiện tại. Nhảy việc để lên lương không còn là chuyện dĩ nhiên nữa.
- Số lượng job ít, số ứng viên thì nhiều
- Apply mãi nhưng không hiểu sao CV bạn vẫn bị reject liên tục dù bạn hơn 10 năm KN và thuộc hàng super senior
- Vị trí nhiều, job tuyển liên tục, nhưng không có JD và offer nào đủ hấp dẫn để chạm trái tim bạn

Cơ thể của chúng ta không phải là một cỗ máy để bạn có thể switch liên tục. Nó cần thời gian đệm để chuyển dịch từ một người sáng mở mắt ra là đến văn phòng, sang một người thức dậy, mở laptop lên và viết CV ứng tuyển. Và tuỳ theo cơ địa, thời gian đệm này sẽ tốn vài tuần, cho đến vài tháng, thậm chí là nửa năm bất kể là junior, senior hay high level executive.

Kể cả senior trên 10 năm KN, trở lại thị trường tuyển dụng sẽ cần thời gian để học lại cách viết từng dòng CV, khởi động lại profile Linkedin và bật radar tìm job. Tất cả đều phải học lại, update mới, chuẩn bị với cả một chiến lược thức thời.

Re-fresher đôi khi sẽ khó khăn hơn fresher một chút, vì ta cần gỡ bỏ đi các định kiến cũ kỹ đã ăn sâu vào tiềm thức, bỏ đi cái tôi và hào quang vẫn luôn sáng ngời suốt những ngày còn ở công ty. Và mỗi hành trình refresh sẽ là sức bật cho cú nhảy mới, một phiên bản mới, chứ không chỉ là một bước chân từ cánh cửa này sang cánh cửa khác.

Và đó là hành trình Hannie đã đồng hành với bản thân mình, và với các bạn senior khác loay hoay giữa 2 ý định: nghỉ việc, hay làm tiếp? Mà ý định lớn nhất thực ra là: Làm sao để có một sự nghiệp ý nghĩa và hài lòng hơn?
