The global fashion community was struck with profound sorrow following the tragic passing of Mathilde Favier, Dior Couture’s longtime director of public relations, who died in a car accident in Airvault, France, alongside her partner, film producer Nicolas Altmayer. Favier, aged 57, and Altmayer, aged 61, were traveling in a vehicle that collided with a semi-trailer truck. Her career, which began in the 1980s across esteemed fashion publications like Glamour and Femina Hebdo before transitioning into PR at Prada, culminated in her joining Dior in 2011—deepening a family bond with the house where her sister, Victoire de Castellane, has designed fine jewelry since the 1990s.
Tributes from across the luxury landscape poured in to honor a woman widely considered the heartbeat of the legendary French fashion house. Dior remembered Favier as “an exceptional woman whose communicative joy, talent, and loyalty were exemplary.” LVMH Chairman and CEO Bernard Arnault expressed deep sorrow for the loss of someone who “devoted so many years to putting her passion, energy, and talent at the service of the house of Dior.” CEO Delphine Arnault echoed this sentiment, sharing, “With the passing of Mathilde, Dior is losing an incredible professional, and I have lost a loyal friend.”
Jonathan Anderson, Dior’s artistic director, captured the industry’s collective heartbreak, describing her as the very incarnation of grace: “I am heartbroken by Mathilde Favier’s passing. Mathilde was the very embodiment of elegance and, in many ways, the spirit of couture itself.” Mathilde Favier leaves behind a legacy defined by warmth, uncompromising standards, and a profound devotion to the artistry of fashion, ensuring her spirit will forever remain woven into the history of Dior.
