LÉON: THE PROFESSIONAL (1994)
In the gritty streets of New York City, Léon (Jean Reno), a solitary and disciplined hitman, lives a quiet life in the shadows. He follows a strict code: no attachments, no emotions — just the job. But his world is turned upside down when he reluctantly takes in Mathilda (Natalie Portman), a 12-year-old girl whose entire family is brutally murdered by a corrupt DEA agent, Norman Stansfield (Gary Oldman).
With nowhere else to go, Mathilda begs Léon to teach her “the art” — not just to survive, but to get revenge. What begins as a cold partnership slowly grows into a complex bond of trust, pain, and unlikely affection. As Mathilda trains in the ways of a killer, Léon is forced to confront emotions he’s long buried — and a humanity he thought he’d lost.
But Stansfield is unhinged and powerful, and the closer Mathilda gets to vengeance, the more danger they both face. In a final stand of sacrifice and redemption, Léon will have to choose: remain the perfect killer, or become the protector he never thought he could be.
Léon: The Professional is a haunting, stylish thriller from director Luc Besson — a tale of violence, innocence, and the strange beauty of two broken souls finding purpose in each other.
