Cebu City Unveils Plans for Badjao Resettlement Site

Following a recent fire in Barangay Mambaling, Cebu City is planning a 33-hectare resettlement site for the Badjao community. The proposed housing will feature stilt houses protected by mangroves, with a vacuum sewer system for sanitation. The site will be designed similarly to structures in Zamboanga City and Basilan. Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia shared that 875 individuals will be relocated, with funding sourced from disaster funds. The city is also exploring support from the National Housing Authority and the Malaysian Government. The project aims to be completed within the year.

"Community Rises from the Ashes After Devastating Fire"

Just days ago, this street was full of life families laughing, neighbours chatting, the smell of dinner in the air. Now, all that remains is rubble and the faint smell of smoke.

In the midst of the devastation, there’s something else hope. Neighbors are coming together, helping each other sift through the wreckage, finding whatever they can to rebuild their lives. The fire may have taken their homes, but it hasn’t taken their spirit. It’s a powerful reminder that even in the face of loss, the heart of a community is unbreakable.
