'Tis the season for horror movies and creature features according to my early-Halloween-celebratin' ass! I'm catching up on fright flicks that I've never seen, both vintage and hot off the 2025 presses. This year I've got a sub-focus on slimes, blobs, oozes, and melting. Also featuring brains and aliens and alien brains and brain aliens! Brailiens? Oh, and say hi to David Cronenberg, he's in the back with the snacks and the cooler. We're havin' fun. If you want, you can check out the full list on my Letterboxd. Happy Oozetober to those that observe! 🫠

In "Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster" (1964), directed by Ishirō Honda, this iconic kaiju film blends science fiction and fantasy as it pits humanity against a formidable extraterrestrial force embodied by the three-headed dragon, King Ghidorah. The central conflict arises when a meteorite crashes to Earth, releasing a psychic princess, who becomes a harbinger of chaos, warning of the impending threat. The stakes escalate as Godzilla, Rodan, and Mothra must put aside their differences to save humanity from annihilation. Each lead creature is driven by a mix of instinctual survival and a newfound sense of duty, reflecting the theme of unity in the face of overwhelming adversity. The film's unique hook lies in its exploration of unlikely alliances among monstrous beings, as it not only showcases thrilling battles but also touches on themes of cooperation and understanding amidst chaos.

Monsters Conquer... Our Hearts and Minds

Monsters Conquer the World is a blog and podcast dedicated to the radioactive dinosaurs, mutated insects, gigantic aliens, huge robots, and other colossal creatures that have stomped through major cities and into my heart. If it’s at least 50 feet tall and a menace to society, chances are it’s on my radar. If it’s invulnerable to conventional weapons and has a tendency to fist-fight similarly huge beasts, then we’re really cooking.
