Ever since a thousand years ago, All Souls' Day—2nd of November— has been celebrated. But have you ever wondered how it even started and became a tradition around the world?

During the Middle Ages, most Christian communities held a yearly feast to remember those who lived holy lives (All Saints' Day). However, sometime in the 10th Century, St. Odilo of Cluny instituted All Souls' Day—a day to pray for the souls of deceased family members. For they believed praying for the dead is a powerful way to tangibly help those who have passed on, and to commemorate the souls in purgatory.

Today, All Souls' Day is observed around the world by people of various faiths and cultural backgrounds.

In the Philippines, All Souls' Day (UNDAS) is a public holiday where families gather at cemeteries, sometimes camping overnight by graves. Filipinos' clean graves, eat, drink, and pray, believing souls feast with them. They even decorate the grave of the deceased with flowers and candles as a symbol of remembrance and hope. For us Filipinos, UNDAS is like any other holiday where families can be together, even the deceased.

Now that we know how All Souls’ Day started and even how Filipinos celebrate it, let us hear about an UNDAS memory you couldn't forget!

CIIT OrgWeave has officially wrapped up — so let’s take a look back at the moments of our climb!

Wave 1 (October 6 - 10) kicked off the climb with booths, activities, and even quests — sending CIITzens from the 2nd Floor up to the 7th as they began their ascent to the peak!

Wave 2 (October 27 - 30) brought a calmer pace as the OrgWeave reached its final stretch, with the last orgs setting up cozy booths — featuring fantastic cosplays, creative artworks, and supportive safe spaces for CIITzens.

𝐒𝐈𝐍𝐄𝐋𝐄𝐊𝐓𝐔𝐑𝐀 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓 𝐃𝐀𝐘 𝟑: 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐓𝐚𝐥𝐤𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐨𝐟 𝐍𝐨𝐧𝐢 𝐀𝐛𝐚𝐨’𝐬 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐥𝐚𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐢𝐥𝐦, “𝑩𝒍𝒐𝒐𝒎 𝑾𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒀𝒐𝒖 𝑨𝒓𝒆 𝑷𝒍𝒂𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒅”.

On October 30, 2025, the last day of Sinelektura 2025 was held at the Left wing of the 7th-floor bleachers. '𝑩𝒍𝒐𝒐𝒎 𝑾𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒀𝒐𝒖 𝑨𝒓𝒆 𝑷𝒍𝒂𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒅', an award-winning documentary film by Noni Abao, was screened to the CIIT audience. Kristine Camille Sulit, advisor of host 24 Frames, moderated the event and introduced the film.

The documentary follows the stories of three activists who went through the oppressive actions of the government. Through the documentary, the reality of the farmers’ and activists’ lives is revealed as they try to push back against the military that apprehends them. Three different stories tell the same truth, reinforcing the lives of these activists who keep on fighting despite being detained and tortured by unjust systems.

After the film screening, Andrei Estacio, a member of Artists For Just Peace (AFJP), provided a solidarity talk. He echoed the necessary roles that farmers and activists have within an unfair government. He stated that “𝙠𝙪𝙣𝙜 𝙬𝙖𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙜 𝙢𝙖𝙜𝙨𝙖𝙨𝙖𝙠𝙖, 𝙗𝙖𝙠𝙖 𝙬𝙖𝙡𝙖 𝙙𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙖𝙮𝙤 𝙙𝙞𝙩𝙤 𝙠𝙖𝙨𝙞 𝙢𝙖𝙡𝙖𝙠𝙞 𝙖𝙣𝙜 𝙧𝙤𝙡𝙚 𝙣𝙞𝙡𝙖”. Additionally, he provided emphasis on the power of students in being organized and informed regarding the corruption that takes advantage of innocent citizens and labor workers.

During the talkback segment of the film with Director Noni Abao and Producer Alex Poblete, Abao informed the audience about how the film was formed. It was originally titled ‘Transients’ as it was initially about Randy Malayao’s life, whose stories go far and wide in the region of Cagayan Valley. However, he added the stories of Agnes and Amanda later into the film’s creation.

In regard to the film's production, Alex Poblete provided details about the specific preparations they went through, making meticulous decisions, having constant communication to make the production process efficient, and always being on the move in capturing ongoing events throughout the duration of filming.

The creation of the film went through some troubles along the way. Financial and security-related issues hampered not just the film’s production, but also its distribution for Cinemalaya 2025. Despite those issues, Abao, Poblete, and their crew found a way to resolve those problems and proceeded to showcase the film at its fullest in the Cinemalaya 2025 film festival.

In 𝘈𝘣𝘢𝘰'𝘴 𝘤𝘭𝘰𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘳𝘦𝘮𝘢𝘳𝘬𝘴, he integrated the thoughtful quotes from the film to motivate the students to utilize their time in becoming a part of activist organizations and join in collective action against corrupt systems. 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 & 𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐩 | 𝐒𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐋𝐞𝐤𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝟐

SineLektura 2025 continued on its second day, October 29, 20205, with a hands-on Set Recording & Sound Design workshop led by Peruvian filmmaker and sound artist Cesar Centeno and sound designer Daryl Libongco.
Cesar opened with a simple but powerful idea: “sound is everywhere, time is reality.” He walked us through creating a “sound map” (scene, character, language, mood). He stressed the importance of preproduction in planning so placement, acoustics, and practical noise control are solved before rolling. His demos showed how frequencies and ambient choices trigger images and define a film’s auditory identity.
Daryl lightened the room with a listening test where the audience had to guess if the audio playing was rain or frying bacon (Spoiler Alert: it was all bacon). He demoed raw vs. finished audio to show why good sound design should feel invisible. He covered practical tools, including EQ, plugins, Foley, and Automated Dialogue Replacement (ADR), and warned against the “fix it in post(production) mentality and overprocessing.
The session closed with a lively Q&A, leaving one clear takeaway: treat sound as a production-first craft. Plan it early, test thoroughly, and let sound do the heavy lifting of mood and meaning.

𝐍𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐠𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬: 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐅𝐢𝐥𝐦 𝐅𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐬

On October 28, 2025, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗸𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 was held at the 2nd Floor Left Wing Library. 24Frames Vice President and Advisor — Victor Niccolo Marquez and Kristine Camille Sulit — introduced the new 24Frames registrants on what will be expected in the Sinelektura 2025 event. Emphasizing the importance of holding this event for the new and old batch of CIIT Film students.

After the introduction, 5 short films were presented: ‘Brownout Capital’ by Pabelle Manikan; ‘Rumbles of the Earth’ by Carl Joseph Lara; ‘Watersports’ by Whammy Alcazaren; ‘Objects do not Randomly Fall from the Sky’ by Maria Estella Paisol; and ‘Here Here’ by Joanne Cesario. Each short film falls under different genres and tones, yet all showcase stories that are worth being watched.

After the film screening, filmmakers Maria Estela Paiso and Joanne Cesario were introduced as the speakers of the hour. During their conversation, the two guests recalled their experiences on how they first got into filmmaking during their college years, sharing the unexpected surprises that they have gone through despite having no further knowledge about the Film Festival pipeline. In Cesario’s experience, her college thesis being submitted spontaneously by a friend allowed her to eventually win first place in the Gawad CCP 2016.

Throughout the conversation, they delved into meaningful questions. In response to a question about turning personal experiences into creative stories, Estela insisted that she tries everything that will get to know more of herself, and says that college is a place to know your identity. Cesario shared her experience in being exposed to new environments and how it shaped her stories,“Pagmumulan ng kwento mo [sa] danas talaga.”

Estela and Joanne found commonality when they were asked about what they can and can’t find in film festivals. Money and the audience becomes a common thread on what is to be found, but they stated that the community aspect doesn’t tend to be seen within these festivals.

The last part of the event went through the Q&A segments, answers given by Estela and Joanne remain insightful to the audience. They shared to the audience that any sampled works adjacent to film can still build-up their creative prowess, long work hours, and large expenses becomes a big challenge in film production, and being organized is important in the filmmaking space. Joanne stated this the best, “𝘔𝘢𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘨𝘢 𝘮𝘢𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘬𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘬𝘢𝘭, 𝘮𝘢𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘨𝘢 𝘮𝘢𝘨𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘰𝘯𝘨, 𝘮𝘢𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘨𝘢 𝘮𝘢𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘣𝘶𝘬𝘢𝘴 𝘺𝘶𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘱, 𝘢𝘵 𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘬𝘢𝘮𝘢𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘨𝘢 𝘮𝘢𝘨-𝘦𝘮𝘱𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘻𝘦 𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘨𝘢 𝘴𝘢 𝘥𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘴 𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘨𝘢 𝘵𝘢𝘰.”

𝐓𝐮𝐥𝐝𝐨𝐤-𝐓𝐮𝐥𝐝𝐨𝐤 𝐍𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐁𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐨𝐤: 𝐀 𝐓𝐚𝐥𝐤 𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐌𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝𝐬

In celebration of design month, Tuldok-Tuldok Nagiging Bundok was held at CIIT on October 17, in collaboration with Design Week Philippines, DTI - Design Center of the Philippines, Novice, and 24 Frames as part of International Production Design Week 2025.

The theme of this year’s design week is Ginhawa, exploring ease and balance in creation and life, featuring artists 𝗡𝗵𝗼𝗱𝗮 𝗠𝘂ñ𝗼𝘇 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗡𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝗴𝗼, whose intricate miniature works shrink worlds small enough to hold, making space for memory, imagination and endless possibilities.

As the talk proceeded, both artists shared their inspirations and experiences. Nhoda began creating miniatures during the pandemic to combat depression, recalling his moments as a child who did not have to worry about anything but playing. It became a force that pushed him to create and transform scraps into stories of hope and childhood nostalgia. Nhoda says that it is his obsession with his craft that helped him to speak to the world without having to say a word. So what is ginhawa for him? “𝘼𝙣𝙜 𝙜𝙞𝙣𝙝𝙖𝙬𝙖 𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙖 𝙨𝙖𝙠𝙞𝙣 𝙖𝙮 𝙢𝙖𝙜𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙥𝙞𝙣 𝙝𝙖𝙗𝙖𝙣𝙜 𝙗𝙪𝙝𝙖𝙮 𝙣𝙜 𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜.”

Meanwhile, Norman found motivation in having nothing. To provide for his family during the pandemic, the inability to buy created an ability for him to create instead. Saying that when he puts his mind to it, his hands will put in the work, giving life to scale ships that mirror both struggle and perseverance — creating nothing to something. For him, ginhawa is to be seen, for his hard work and craftsmanship to be recognized and appreciated.
