🔹Service charges levied by restaurants are illegal, the Centre said and asked the National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI) to end practice immediately.

🔹The decision was taken at a meeting between the consumer affairs ministry and the NRAI on discussions over complaints by consumers being forced to pay service charges.

🔹In April 2017, the ministry had issued guidelines on the levy of service charge by hotels/restaurants.

🔹The guidelines noted that entry of a customer to a restaurant cannot be itself construed as a consent to pay service charge.

🔹Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday asked the Union government to ensure the safety of Kashmiri Pandits in Jammu and Kashmir.

🔹His comments came after suspected militants barged into a government office in Budgam district on May 12 and shot dead Rahul Bhat, a Kashmiri Pandit.

🔹The chief minister added that everyone needs to work together to help Kashmiri Pandits return to the Valley.

⭕Coimbatore businessman Naresh Karthik and his wife Gayathri applied to 22 primary schools for their daughter Vilma.

⭕In every one of them, her application was put “on hold” because the ‘caste’ and ‘religion’ categories were left blank.

⭕None of the schools were aware of the fact that the Tamil Nadu government had passed an order in 1973 and 2000 that allowed religion and caste categories to be left blank.

⭕Having a 'no caste', 'no religion' certificate would mean that Vilma will not be eligible for any government reservation or relaxations based on either caste or religion.

⚖️ “It has been noticed that the attitude of the police to s*x workers is often brutal and violent. It is as if they are a class whose rights are not recognised,” the court said.

⚖️ Justice L Nageswara Rao, who was heading the three-judge bench that gave the order, invoked “special powers under Article 142 of the Constitution”.

⚖️ If a minor is found living in a brothel or with s*x workers, it should not be presumed that the child was trafficked.

⚖️ Proper tests must be done to find whether the child is the daughter or son of a s*x worker.

🌾The government has put a curb on the wheat export by putting this under the “prohibited” category.

🌾In an order issued late Friday night, the commerce ministry said this is being done to manage overall food security of the country and to need the support of the neighbouring and vulnerable nations.

🌾As per the notification, wheat will be allowed only in case of “shipments where Irrevocable Letter of Credit has been issued” on or before the notification.
