Many people hop on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway and feel they’ve ticked off the Yorkshire steam experience.

But it’s just one of seven amazing lines! This railway was constructed by 6,000 workers enduring the harsh Pennine winters. It’s a branch line that was revived after British Rail closed it, and it dates back to 1758, making it older than any other operating railway in the world.

A stone road stretches for a mile across the Yorkshire moor, allegedly built by a giant for his wife's cow.

For much of the 20th century, archaeologists attributed it to Roman origins, but they may have been mistaken.

According to new research from English Heritage, this causeway is likely prehistoric, dating back to the Neolithic or Bronze Age, far older than the Roman theory that had been accepted for years.

There’s no pottery, coins, or evidence to definitively prove either side. Interestingly, the giant's tale predates both theories!

It seems everyone reminisces about the same old photos, claiming to remember those days fondly, but seldom do they mention when it all came to an end.

The Ridings closed its doors in 1974, while Bradford's iconic trolleybuses, the last of their kind in Britain, ceased operation in 1972. Not to mention Woolworths, which vanished in just two weeks back in January 2009.

Did you know a shoemaker from Knaresborough went missing in 1745?

His remains weren't discovered until 1758, thirteen years later, when they were found in a medieval hermit's cave along the River Nidd.
This site had been a peaceful spot for religious pilgrims for over 500 years before it became infamous for one of Yorkshire's most shocking murders.
