“You need to network.” With WHO Exactly?!?

Everyone keeps saying, Network, Network, Network, but with whom?? The barista who knows my latte order? The friend who still thinks I work at that job I left 3 years ago? YES - all of them and....

I know people who have landed interviews talking to people in the driveway, on the bleachers at a sporting event, on an airplane, talking to the other moms at school pick up.... You never know who is going to be the person who has just the right connection.

Build real relationships with people who see you, get you, and can open new doors (or walk through them with you). Start where you are. Use what you have. End every conversation with the question, "Who can I talk to next?"

It’s hard to go after big things when you feel beat down.

No matter what you’re working on, your career, your business, your health, there’s one thing that changes everything...Get out of your bubble. Talk to people.

I see it every day with my clients and friends navigating career transitions.
The ones landing interviews aren’t sitting back and applying online.
They’re:
✨ Engaging on LinkedIn
✨ Showing up to events
✨ Reaching out to their network
✨ Starting conversations

Connection creates momentum. And I’ve lived this lesson in a much deeper way. When I was navigating my own rare and chronic disease, it was isolating. Scary. Overwhelming. For a while, I stayed in that space, trying to figure it out on my own. But everything changed when I found my way into the community.

That’s where I found:
– The names of doctors
– The real, lived experiences
– The patterns, insights, and hope

No longer alone. Listening to others’ stories helped me better understand my own. It gave me a new way to approach my health, and ultimately, my life. And once I experienced that transformation, I knew I wanted to create that for others. I started building safe spaces, virtually and in person, where people could connect, share, and feel seen.
The common thread in all of it? Human connection.

One of the smartest career moves I’m seeing right now?

Taking a contract/temp role… while looking for a full-time one.

The old way, applying to want ads, isn't working. Dozens and dozens of applications, and still nothing. Your job search is stretching out, your confidence is shattered, and your financial runway is running out.

Have you considered taking a consulting or temp role? Not because you’re settling, but because it offers some much needed cash flow. A door into a company or organization. An insider's view to know if this is the place for you or not. And most importantly, giving you early access to full-time positions that open up (or are created just for you!)

Getting dozens and dozens of applications out, landing a few interviews, may feel like progress. But is it? Consulting/temp roles are a different strategy. It has worked for several of my clients in the past, and even for me!

Sometimes the fastest way into the right role…Isn’t applying. It’s already being there.

Looking to make a big, dramatic career leap?
Quit the job.
Start over.
Burn it all down!

You could do it that way, but this definition of a big, dramatic career leap is what keeps so many brilliant professionals stuck. When you have a mortgage, kids, a car payment, aging parents, and other financial responsibilities, burning it all down isn’t just unrealistic, it’s irresponsible.
So instead, you stay and settle. In roles that drain you. In careers that no longer fit (if they ever did)! In cycles of “I’ll figure it out later.”
